If both the binder and liberation, Nirvana, are to be established as liberated from samsara, and if these two are established by their own nature, then they cannot be established by a single act of liberation, so separate acts are needed. In that case, by possessing which act of liberation is one established as the liberator? Since there is no second act other than liberation, it is unreasonable to say "the liberator liberates." If there is a second act, then after liberation, one relies on liberation again, so even an Arhat would need to be liberated again. If one thinks that there is no liberation without being bound, so the binding will be liberated, then if the binding is being liberated and is established by its own nature, then the binding and the being liberated are the same basis, so the binding and liberation would occur simultaneously, which is impossible, like light and darkness. This is like saying that if something that is being born exists by its own nature, then it can be said that it has the potential to be born at that time. The third point is that if samsara and Nirvana, as well as binding and liberation, also do not exist by their own nature, then the aspirants of liberation think, "When will I not take rebirth and attain Nirvana, and when will Nirvana become mine?" Such thoughts would become meaningless. Moreover, the sequence of giving, moral discipline, listening, thinking, and meditating that they do, all these efforts necessary to attain Nirvana, would also become meaningless. If someone thinks this way, then all things are like reflections, without inherent existence, and because the self and what belongs to the self exist inherently, they cling to emptiness, thereby generating the view that "the self and what belongs to the self exist inherently," thinking, "I will not take rebirth and attain Nirvana, and Nirvana will become mine." Like this, whatever those who aspire to liberation cling to, that clinging is appropriation, that is, a great clinging to the view of the aggregates of destruction (satkayadrishti). If such clinging is not abandoned, then all efforts made for the sake of liberation will become meaningless. If one aims at Nirvana, all such thoughts exist in the nature of non-destructive views, thinking, "When will I attain Nirvana?" and clinging to "When will Nirvana become mine?" then this is the view of destruction, and therefore, the sutras say that it itself becomes an obstacle to attaining Nirvana. Therefore, the sutras say that those who wish to be liberated from samsara must abandon it, thereby showing that even Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas have the wisdom to realize the selflessness of persons and phenomena. Therefore, those who aspire to liberation must first
