also do not transmigrate. Because there are no past or future conditioned phenomena except for the cessation of the former conditioned phenomenon and the non-arising of the latter. Moreover, those two are not considered transmigrators by virtue of their cessation and non-arising. Therefore, past and future conditioned phenomena are not transmigrators. If one thinks that even if those two do not transmigrate, the former moment transmigrates when the latter moment arises, so one can establish them as transmigrators by relying on both the former and latter of the conditioned phenomena. Then, one should examine whether the former and latter moments are inherently one or different. If it is the first case, it is unreasonable because they are cause and effect and former and latter, and because the times of the former ceasing and the latter arising are different. If it is the second case, then when the latter moment arises, the former moment will not transmigrate because those two are inherently different entities. It is not indefinite, otherwise, since ordinary beings have birth in samsara, even arhats would become in samsara, and when another lamp is lit, the extinguished lamp would also burn. Because, for unrelated other things that are the same, one moment before and after, one arises and one transmigrates, there is no reason not to think so for the other two. Furthermore, if the latter moment arises from the former moment, then from which of the former moments does it arise: the ceased, the not ceased, or the decaying? If it arises from the ceased, then even if the seed is burned, a sprout will arise, so it will become without a cause. Although this school considers cessation to be real, it does not consider the latter moment to arise from the cessation of the former moment, as has been said before, therefore it is refuted in that way. If it arises from the former unceased, then the fruit will arise without the seed being transformed, and the cause and effect will occur simultaneously. Although in name it is considered that the former unceased is the substantial cause of the latter, here it is refuted that it arises by its own nature, and for it, the faults mentioned before will enter. If it arises from the decaying, then the decaying, which is neither ceased nor unceased, does not exist, and faults have already been stated for those two. Thus, the view that each of the separated former and latter moments and the combination of the two are transmigrators has been refuted. And, because it is refuted that the former and latter are one and different, and that the latter moment arising from the former is inherently existent, the former and latter moments and cause and effect are inherently established.

Since there is no place to abide, there is also no continuity dependent on it, therefore, for continuity, samsara is not inherently existent. All other schools that believe in the transmigrator who passes from one being to another believe that there is a substantially existent person who is different in nature from the aggregates that transmigrates. Therefore, saying that formations or aggregates transmigrate is our own school, and the basis for establishing a person is mostly considered to be consciousness. Therefore, it is believed that consciousness, such as the alaya consciousness, transmigrates, and it is also said that it itself is the person who transmigrates, and it is believed that the continuity itself, which does not distinguish between prior and subsequent moments, transmigrates. The second part is divided into two points: refuting the sentient being who is different in nature from the aggregates transmigrating; refuting the person who is inexpressible as being either the same as or different from the aggregates transmigrating. The first point: If it is said that it is true that formations do not transmigrate because they contradict reason, but that the substantially existent self that is different in nature from the aggregates transmigrates, then for such a sentient being who transmigrates, all these sequences of formations not transmigrating also apply, so it is not reasonable. Because if it is permanent, it does not perform the action of going and coming, so the permanent does not transmigrate, and for the impermanent sentient being, it is also unreasonable to transmigrate through the examination of moments and continuity. The second point: If the many revered ones say that it is unreasonable to say that the examination of formations, whether permanent or impermanent, not transmigrating is the same for sentient beings, it is unreasonable. Because the self, like being inexpressible as being either the same as or different from the aggregates, is the person who transmigrates, who is inexpressible as being either permanent or impermanent. If the person who transmigrates is inherently existent, then this person, with respect to the aggregates, sense bases, and elements, must be able to be found when searching through the five ways previously explained, but if it is not found, then which inherently existent self can transmigrate? It will not transmigrate. Furthermore, if here, from the appropriation of a human being, one transmigrates to the appropriation of a god, then does one go after abandoning the appropriation of the human being, or does one go without abandoning it? It is inherently existent. If it is the former, then between the former and the latter, there will be no existence of the five aggregates of appropriation, because there is a time when the former appropriation has been abandoned, and the latter appropriation has not been taken. If it is established by nature, then the actions of abandoning and taking, both before and after, cannot occur simultaneously. There is no existence between the two, and the appropriation of
