It is not to speak without admitting. Secondly, it is not the case that things are inherently established and permanently existent. So, for that which conceives things as existing and as not existing from before, if one says, "It is definitely only existent," then it becomes clinging to permanence, and if one says, "It is non-existent," then it becomes falling into nihilism. Also, viewing as permanent or nihilistic obstructs access to higher realms and liberation, and causes great harm. Therefore, the wise should not abide in the two extremes of existence and non-existence. Furthermore, why is it that if one views things as existent and things as non-existent, one falls into the views of permanence and nihilism? Whatever is said to be inherently existent, since there is no change in inherent nature, it is never non-existent. Therefore, by accepting inherent existence, one becomes permanentist, but not by merely accepting existence. If one accepts that something that appeared as a thing in the past is inherently established, and then says that it is now, that is, later, non-existent, then one falls into nihilism, but not by merely accepting that something that existed in the past is destroyed in the second time. We do not fall into the views of permanence and nihilism that depend on inherent nature, because we do not accept that things are inherently existent. If you think that you do not have the view of permanence, but you do have the view of nihilism, then if you previously accepted that a thing that will eventually be destroyed is inherently existent, and then later think that it is non-existent, then this is slandering the fact that something that is inherently existent must always exist, and therefore you will fall into nihilism. If one says that something that is inherently established is completely non-existent, then saying that it is non-existent does not slander it, and therefore one will not fall into nihilism. As it is said in the Lankavatara Sutra: "Bhagavan, if someone first takes greed, hatred, and delusion by borrowing, and then says that greed, hatred, and delusion are not existent things, then that is falling into nothingness." Just like that. If one thinks that things are inherently existent, even if one does not say that it is permanent, one will become a permanentist; if one thinks that something that was inherently existent in the past is destroyed in the second time, even if one does not admit that its continuum is cut off, one will become a nihilist. Therefore, once one thinks that things are inherently established, one cannot transcend the views of permanence and nihilism. If one does not accept that things are inherently established, then both permanence and nihilism that depend on inherent nature

Even without the view of self, if there is no basis for establishing cause and effect, it becomes slander, which is a nihilistic view. It cannot be said that it does not become a nihilistic view because the object of annihilation is not admitted. Because even the worldly Lokayata (materialists) first admit the causes of annihilation such as past and future lives and karmic results, and even if they do not later say that they do not exist, they cannot avoid becoming nihilistic. Yogacharas believe that only the other-powered consciousness and mental factors are established by their own characteristics, so they can abandon the view of non-existence, and because there is no conceptual construction on the other-powered, they want to abandon the view of permanence. This is because, by denying the existence of the apprehended and apprehender, which are dependent on external objects, in conventional terms, and by imputing what is not truly existent in the other-powered, they fall into both extremes of permanence and annihilation. Therefore, only the view of the Madhyamikas does not fall into the extremes of existence and non-existence, and is free from the faults of permanence and annihilation, but it is not so for other schools. As it is said in the Ratnavali: "Those who say the person is the aggregates, the world, the Samkhyas, the owls, the naked ones, and those with boundaries, the medicine that transcends existence and non-existence. Therefore, the teachings of the Buddhas, the immortal, transcend, existence and non-existence, the profound Dharma, know this to be the treasury of the Dharma." Among them, merely saying that the person is a pudgala refers to one's own school saying that the pudgala is substantially existent. Merely saying that the aggregates are the person refers to one's own school saying that the pudgala is not substantially existent but the aggregates are substantially existent. In short, as long as it is not possible to establish karmic results and bondage and liberation, etc., for a nature that is not established by its own essence, until then, no matter how one abandons the views of permanence and annihilation, one cannot go beyond these two extremes, because when abandoning the nihilistic view, one must admit the extreme of existence, and when abandoning the eternalistic view, one must admit the extreme of non-existence. Therefore, the view of Vijnanavada, which says that the formless realm has mind, and that the conceptual is not established by its own characteristics, while the other two natures are established by their own characteristics, is like following the words of a person respected by many, and is the method by which the compassionate teacher gradually leads to the realization of the ultimate truth. It is a provisional statement made for the sake of such disciples, and is not definitive. How to establish which sutras are provisional and which sutras are definitive is explained in the Samadhiraja Sutra and the Sagaramati Sutra.
