Always empty. Although spoken with words, they are all silent. In caves, mountains, valleys, and forests, just as echoes arise from rocks due to conditions. Understand all conditioned things in this way. All beings are like illusions and mirages. Thus it is said. Thirdly, the summary of the meaning has been explained. This is called "Examining What I Have Done and What Others Have Done," which is the essence of ten verses, the twelfth chapter of the excellent explanation. Secondly, showing that the nature of mere phenomena is emptiness, divided into two: refuting the inherent existence of phenomena. Refuting the proof of inherent existence. The first is divided into three: explaining the text of the treatise. Combining it with the meaning of the scriptures. Summarizing the meaning and indicating the name. The first is divided into three: explaining the absence of inherent existence with scriptures known to others. Refuting the dispute that such an explanation is unreasonable. Refuting the explanation of the meaning of that scripture in another way. The first is: When analyzed in the manner just explained, things do not arise from the four, such as self. There is also no other way to arise as established by nature, but for those whose eyes of wisdom have been dimmed by the darkness of ignorance, it also appears to arise by its own nature, so like illusory horses and elephants deceiving those who do not know illusion, they deceive children. Therefore, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, said: Whatever dharma is deceptive is false, thus declaring that deception pervades falsehood, and also declaring that all conditioned things are of the nature of deception, therefore all those conditioned things are false. In the sutra it says: Monks, whatever conditioned things are of the nature of deception, they are false, and whatever un-deceptive dharma is nirvana, that is the ultimate truth. Similarly, it is also said: That conditioned thing is also a deceptive dharma, and it is also a dharma of extreme destruction. Among them, the deceptive dharma is confusing and appears inverted, like a wheel of firebrands. The ultimate truth is not deceptive, like nirvana. Therefore, since it is inherently non-existent,

Because you said it deceives, things are proven to be without inherent existence. As it says in the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, all phenomena are emptiness, in the manner of being without inherent existence. Therefore, here, the Sutra Pitaka says that Nirvana is true, in order to show that all conditioned things are impermanent. In terms of the nature of deception, non-deception is called the ultimate truth, but it is not a truth established by the power of its own essence. Secondly, if merely by the nature of deception, all conditioned things are shown to be false, then since there is nothing that can function, all things will become a nihilistic view of slander. The sutra quoted earlier is a famous sutra among the Hearer schools, but the two schools of meaning proponents do not want the meaning of the sutra to be like that, so they argue like this. This is taking everything false as being like a rabbit having horns on its head, thinking that if it were like that, then all cause and effect would cease to exist. Although inherent existence is not established, appearing as existent is considered false, and they say that they do not know that the things that appear can also function, just like illusion. Those who still think that the conditioned things that deceive you, that is, the conditioned things that have the nature of deception, are inherently existent, you are right. If someone like you is not deceived in this way, then it is meaningless to say that this is deceiving children. If it is said that whatever dharma deceives is false, then what does it deceive? How could it become a slander that holds things to be non-existent? If things exist by their own essence, then when things are shown to be false, slandering it will become like non-existence. When things do not exist at all by their own nature, then what does it deceive? Because it does not say that anything that exists does not exist, this accusation is unreasonable. If you want to use that sutra to show the falsity that prevents the truth, if it does not show that things cannot function, then what does this sutra show? The Blessed One said that conditioned things are false in that way, not to show that things do not exist, but to fully show the emptiness of not being born from inherent existence. As it says in the Undefiled Asking Sutra, whatever
