If an aspect appears to an object, it can be established as cognizing the object by itself, so it is meaningless to go through another establisher. Here, the term "valid cognition" (pramana) is not established because it is the definition of valid cognition. If infallibility and clarifying the meaning without knowing are the same, then all apprehended aspects of wrong knowledge would also be valid cognitions, or infallibility would become a meaningless definition of valid cognition. It is also not established as valid cognition because it is the term for what is to be signified by valid cognition, because the apprehended aspect and the apprehending aspect cannot establish what is to be signified, and the imputation of holding sound as permanent would also become infallible because it is the apprehended aspect. Therefore, it is because it is the basis of the definition of valid cognition that the term valid cognition is established, because here, in order to establish self-cognition and other-cognition, some differences between the apprehended aspect and the apprehending aspect included in valid cognition are mentioned. In general, the result of valid cognition has two types: the decisive result and the non-decisive result. The first is, as it is said, "For things to be taken and things to be discarded, entering is its main thing, because," as it is said, valid cognition relies on understanding the meaning, and the person with understanding obtains benefit and abandons what is not beneficial, these two. Among them, being able to abandon poison and thorns etc. by relying on correct knowledge is only ordinary, the main thing is to abandon all suffering and obtain the bliss of liberation, as it is said in Pramanavarttika, "Benefit and non-benefit, obtaining and abandoning, are necessarily preceded by correct knowledge, therefore this is only for the purpose of showing the meaning to those who are not proficient." The meaning of what is said should also be understood in the same way. The second non-decisive result is the cognition of the object itself, because that is the actual need for valid cognition to arise in the continuum. In general, which of the definition of just valid cognition and the definition of the result of valid cognition, understanding the meaning, needs to be determined first? The latter needs to be determined first, because for the sense direct perception that appears first, being able to establish it as cognizing blue, first the blue aspect must be determined to appear, and then the establisher that establishes it as valid cognition, infallibility, must be determined by its own power or by the power of others. Regarding self-determination and other-determination, if we take the direct perception of grasping blue as an example, for the object blue

If it is determined by its own power, it is called self-determination, and if it is determined by the power of others, the other-determination is regarded as valid. In relation to the object-possessor, for the name-base with three aspects of name, sign, and base, is the prior-apprehending manifest cognition determined by its own power or not? Is the signifiable valid cognition determined by its own power or not? And through which aspect is self-determination and other-determination distinguished: the non-deceptive definition determined by its own power or not? If it is said that the term of the signifiable valid cognition is determined by its own power as self-determination and determined by the power of others as other-determination, it is not so, because for the mind-stream of a child who is not familiar with terms, it would be impossible to have self-determined valid cognition, and for the inference in the mind-stream of a seer, it would become not self-determined. In relation to the object blue and the object-possessor prior-apprehending manifest cognition, it is also not the basis for distinction, because both are determined by their own power. Therefore, "From oneself, one understands one's own nature; from terms, indeed, is valid cognition." This statement is a scripture that shows the valid cognition that determines the definition for the name-base. Therefore, like the name-base prior-apprehending manifest cognition, when it is determined, if it is determined non-deceptively by its own power, it is self-determination, and if it needs to be determined by the power of others, it is other-determination. The second part is the classification of the first result of valid cognition, the second and third classifications, and the establishment of the certainty of that classification itself. The first is: blue as the object to be measured, through the appearance of the aspect of its own object, the non-deceptive knowledge that newly arises for blue is valid cognition, and the valid cognition that cognizes blue is called the result. It is not permissible to posit blue as the object to be measured as an external object, because the Mind-Only school argues that blue cannot be an external object. When challenged, the harm is shown through the reason of the reversal of results, because the Sutra school did not show the harm that contradicts manifest cognition. The self-awareness valid cognition result that the Sutra school itself accepts is indirectly rejected here. When showing that action, agent, and dharma are all complete, "That which holds its nature" shows that the agent is under the control of others, because the sense manifest cognition that has become the grasped aspect must enter the object through the grasped aspect of the grasper, and without being grasped by it, there is no power to enter. Therefore, it negates the valid cognition result that has made the grasped aspect the object to be measured.
