Because one cannot be certain that "it is like this," although one wants to establish the sign and the probandum, one does not want the svatantrika's sign and probandum. Through the reason of dependent arising and the example of an image, to establish the inference for others to prove that the sprout does not exist by its own nature. Because one does not admit the difference that the sprout is dependently arisen and arises from dependence, and does not have its own nature, it is not said that both are not established and are called "for others," but as before, because the opponent has not been independently established by valid cognition, therefore, valid cognition does not establish both self and other in that way. Although the sprout and its dependent arising, etc., are established by the innate valid cognition in name, they also exist in the continuum of both the opponent and the non-opponent, but that and the valid cognition that measures existence by its own nature are mixed together in the opponent's mind, and cannot be distinguished until the view arises, so even if the former opponent distinguishes them, he cannot show them during that time. Within the Prasangikas, even if one does not rely on mutual agreement, one can show how it is established by valid cognition, but this is a valid cognition established by the power of the term "name," not established by the power of the nature of things, so the svatantrika is not permissible. For things like sprouts, there are three kinds of clinging: clinging to existence by its own nature, clinging to non-existence there, and clinging that does not distinguish between the two. If the view arises in the continuum, then all three exist, but if the view is not obtained, then the difference that there are only the first and last two should be well understood. Whatever is grasped by conceptual thought as "this," reason will not prevent, and all the practices of bodhicitta, etc., before the view arises in the continuum, are thought to be clinging to truth or clinging to signs, so after presuming that the view has arisen in the continuum, all the wrong views that have no regard for all modes of behavior will be well refuted. Therefore, to establish the probandum by the sign known to others, it is not enough to be merely admitted by the other party, both the subject and the predicate, as well as the sign, etc., must also be established by valid cognition if measured from one's own side, and he himself must definitely want or have a desire, and if there is not that, if one is confused about the object of clinging, then it cannot generate the view that realizes that very reality. The conventional valid cognition measures the ultimate truth.

This is indispensable as the cause of. As it is said: Without relying on terminology, one cannot realize the ultimate truth. This is the meaning. If someone thinks that the Sautrāntikas and other Svātantrikas acknowledge the establishment of ultimate truth and reality, therefore they should not be regarded as Madhyamikas, then, just as it is certain that the stomach is bloated, but its basis is not necessarily a vase, and it needs to be proved first by valid cognition, so it cannot be said that they think that the basis is a vase. Similarly, the Vaibhāṣikas believe that the parts of a vase are not other substances independent of their own parts, which is established by valid cognition, but it cannot be said that they are a school that believes that parts are other substances. Similarly, those wise men also prevent the school of thought that dharmas truly exist through various reasonings, and they have well acknowledged non-reality, so they are Madhyamikas. If it is said that if one is a Madhyamika, one should not act as a Svātantrika, this is not contradictory, just as a monk with vows should not violate the vows, but merely violating the vows does not necessarily mean that one is not a monk. The third aspect has two: eliminating the contradiction with the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra, and explaining that the two chapters of that sutra and the Maitreya Inquiry Sutra are not the same. First, if other teachers distinguish the existence and non-existence of self-nature through the three characteristics of the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra, and establish the way of definitive and non-definitive meanings as mentioned before, then how does this teacher think? On this, there is no clear explanation in the treatises of the two holy fathers and sons, and the commentator Buddhapālita has not clearly explained the difference either. However, the Madhyamakāvatāra says: "Like other sutras, this says for definitive meaning." Its auto-commentary says, what kind of sutra is "like this"? As the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra says, it explains the three natures of parikalpita, paratantra, and pariniṣpanna. Among them, parikalpita is non-existent, paratantra is existent, and similarly, "The taking consciousness is very deep and subtle, all seeds flow like a stream of water, it is unreasonable to cling to it as self, this is not what I said to the children." and so on. Just like the scripture saying "As a doctor treats a sick person, giving various medicines, so is the Buddha, speaking only of mind for sentient beings.", all belong to the non-definitive meaning.
