If you want to posit the ālaya-vijñāna as the basis of karma and its result because no result arises from something that is destroyed, then, since something can be posited as real even if it is not established by its own characteristic, destruction as real is very reasonable, so there is no need for the ālaya-vijñāna. As it says in the Engaging in the Bodhisattva Deeds: "Because that which is of its own nature does not cease, therefore, even without the ālaya-vijñāna, this is possible. In some cases, even after karma has ceased for a long time, you should know that the result truly arises." It is said. Even in conventional truth, it is easy to abandon the views of permanence and annihilation in both truths when one knows how to prevent establishment by its own characteristic and to posit cause and effect that are without own nature, and it is also said that the relationship of karma and its result is reasonable even if one does not accept the ālaya-vijñāna. As it says in the commentary on the Engaging: "Therefore, in this way, in both truths, because there is no own nature, not only is the view of permanence and annihilation abandoned far away, but even after karmas have ceased for a long time, the relationship between the results of karmas and the continuum of the ālaya-vijñāna, and without the imputation of non-loss and attainment, etc., is also reasonable." It is said. "Therefore" means that from no own nature, no own nature arises, which was said before that. Although it is also necessary to abandon other faults such as the unreasonableness of the last dying thought and the first birth thought because one does not accept the ālaya-vijñāna, since Nāgārjuna did not explain it because he thought that if one understands this principle, one can understand the others, and I have not elaborated on it here for fear of prolixity. Even from the key point of the outsiders' acceptance, the ālaya-vijñāna is not posited, because if one accepts it, then as it says in the Middle and the Extremes: "Object and sentient being, and self-consciousness, are the aspects that appear to consciousness. Consciousness arises, but there is no object. Because there is no object, there is no consciousness." One must accept it in this way. The way to establish destruction as real has been said in the Clear Words and the commentary on the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning, and it will be explained in the commentary on the Root Wisdom. With the key point of accepting destruction as real, there is also a great uncommon difference in positing the three times. Regarding the previous position of those who accept self-awareness and its refutation, it is said in the root and commentary of the Engaging in this way: Since it is impossible to remember what has not been experienced before, remembrance arises from experience. Moreover, since there is remembrance of the object, "I saw this before," and the subject, "I saw it," therefore, there is experience for something like the previous apprehending consciousness of the past.

Furthermore, if consciousness is experienced by other things, then that also must be experienced by other things, therefore it is infinite. If the previous consciousness is the object of experience of the later consciousness, then the later consciousness will not sever other objects such as form, therefore it must experience itself. Because experience is definitely one of these two. Therefore, if later recollection experiences the previous object, can self-awareness be established? If here it is said from the perspective of establishing the real existence, then there is no such recollection, therefore it is the same as what is to be established. If it is said from the perspective of terminology, then self-awareness is not established for the opponent, therefore it and recollection will not be established as cause and effect, and it is like having water and fire, therefore establishing that there are water crystals and fire crystals, and because there is recollection, therefore establishing that there is self-awareness, the two are said to be the same. This is the sign of the result, and it is made from the perspective of holding self-awareness as the dharma to be established. If you do that, you will not find an example, therefore, the blue perception is the experiencer, because there is recollection later, for example, like blue, although there is only a trace of the sign dharma in the example, however, since the pervasiveness cannot be established, it is like holding self-awareness as the dharma to be established, so it is not directly said, even if only experience is established, it has already been established, so it is not said like that. One's own system believes that even without self-awareness, the arising of recollection is not contradictory, because: Whatever experiences the object, from that, this recollection does not exist in other things for me. Therefore, I will remember that I have seen it, and this is also the worldly conventional custom. This is how it is shown. If you think that without self-awareness, the arising of recollection is contradictory, then the reason previously stated cannot be eliminated by this, this relies on the particular way of remembering the arising of recollection, and holds the previous one as self-awareness. That is to say, having seen blue before, later when remembering, I will remember that I have seen it before, therefore remembering that the previous one was seen by oneself, therefore the way of remembering is, if the previous blue perception does not experience itself, then arising is contradictory, therefore it is thought that the previous one is self-awareness. Although this is not produced by the power of self-awareness, but because the previous object blue experience and the later recollection consciousness both focus on the same object, therefore the recollection that I have seen before will arise. For this, the object experienced and severed by the previous blue perception, the later blue perception remembers that it is not experienced and not severed, such an establishment
