To hold that nothing exists at all is defamation. If this is done, the parikalpita will truly exist. To say that the parikalpita is an imputation, and that both svabhava and parabhava do not truly exist, is defamation. Because first, the conventional and the latter two truly exist. If seeing what truly exists as non-existent is said to be defamation, then conversely, seeing what does not truly exist as existent must be said to be imputation. And here it is said that holding the parikalpita to exist by its own characteristics is imputation, although it is not explicitly stated in words that it is held to be truly existent, if it exists by its own characteristics, then truly existing is the meaning of the scripture, so holding the parikalpita to truly exist belongs to the side of imputation. The Sandhinirmocana Sutra says: The place of the nature of the parikalpita is the basis for establishing the characteristics, essence, and differences of conditioned phenomena, which is the paratantra. Therefore, this scripture directly points out that the basis of the characteristics of the established words is truly existent, but saying that it does not exist directly shows the paratantra. However, if it does not truly exist, then the parinispanna cannot truly exist either, so there is no problem in explaining both, because the Yogacarabhumi says: To defame only the reality of dharmas such as form, there is neither defamation nor establishment, because both are unreasonable. The reason for saying this is that the way to defame the reality of the paratantra is not to say that it does not exist in name, or that it does not exist universally, but as said before, saying that what previously truly existed does not exist is called defamation. Second, if the way of imputation and defamation is like this, then how to abandon these two? In this regard, the limit of imputation is that for any dharma, establishing it with its essence and differences, and stopping it by showing that it is empty in the ultimate sense, will be explained in detail later. Defamation is said in the Yogacarabhumi: The sutra quoted immediately after that and in the following sutras says, for example, if skandhas such as form exist, a person can be established, and if they do not exist, then a person cannot be established in the absence of reality. Similarly, if the reality of dharmas such as form exists, then the words of establishment of dharmas such as form can be established, and if they do not exist, then they cannot be established in the absence of reality.

Words cannot be closely applied. If the basis of application does not exist, then because the basis does not exist, the application also does not exist, thus it is said to be prohibited. Here, the proponent who prevents slander has no reason to go to other schools, and within his own school, he does not even admit that the objects of form, etc., which are the basis for applying names and terms to the Hearer Sect, do not exist by their own nature. Therefore, as stated in the Compendium, they are proponents of the Great Vehicle's tenets, and they are also those who say that phenomena do not arise by their own nature, those who speak of emptiness of essence. They absolutely do not think that other-powered phenomena, etc., are generally non-existent or non-existent in name, but say that they are not established in the ultimate sense. Therefore, if one refutes by saying that only objects do not exist, as previously stated, it is refuting that truly existing objects that exist in the ultimate sense do not exist. Because according to this system, the completely imputed is not established by its own nature, and if it does not exist in the ultimate sense, then it does not need to not exist. However, the other two natures, if they are not established in the ultimate sense or by their own nature, then they do not exist. The other-powered mind and mental factors arise dependent on their own causes and conditions, and if that is an arising established by its own characteristics, then it will become an ultimate arising. If it is not so, it is only a false assumption that the mind arises, and ultimately the objects of the mind and mental factors will not have arising, this system thinks so. Therefore, the arising and ceasing of the other-powered is only in the face of delusion that clings to arising and ceasing, so there is arising and ceasing in the conventional, so it will not become slander, saying this cannot be answered. Just as in the face of delusion that clings to a rope as a snake, the rope is a snake, but in general the rope has never been established as a snake, so the cause and effect of the other-powered is also cause and effect in the face of delusion that clings to cause and effect. If one thinks that the other-powered itself is not established as cause and effect, then even if one admits that, there will be no place to establish the karmic results of happiness and suffering arising from good and evil, so one cannot avoid slander. If one does not admit such cause and effect, then it is cause and effect established by its own characteristics, so it is established that it exists in the ultimate sense, thinking so After that, if there is no basis for imputation, then application
