Some Madhyamikas seem to oppose the view that it is necessary to teach disciples in such a specific order for taming them. Similarly, regarding the idea that these two should not be meditated on simultaneously but in a sequential manner, it has been said before that one should not be stingy about meditating on them simultaneously. Some Yogacharas also interpret it according to the commentary, but I think it's similar to the previous one. Therefore, although such views have appeared occasionally, the Madhyamika school that extensively composes treatises and nominally asserts the absence of external reality was founded by Master Shantarakshita, which is considered excellent as Master Yeshe De agrees. That is, in the auto-commentary of the Ornament of Madhyamika, it says: Those who, by asserting the reality of continuity and result, want to answer all bad opponents, then one should examine what the meaning of conventional reality is. Is it merely the nature of mind and mental factors, or does it also have the nature of external objects? To this, some rely on the latter view, as it is said, "The treatise is called Mind-Only to refute the agent and the experiencer." Others think: What becomes cause and effect is only consciousness; whatever is established by itself exists in consciousness. Citing the quote from the Essence of Madhyamika, establishing the view that accepts external objects is as previously explained. Others think that mind is their own view. Which sutra do they rely on to do this? It is also said in the auto-commentary of that treatise: In this way, it is in accordance with everything that appears in the Dense Array Sutra and the Explanatory Sutra of Definitive Meaning, etc. Also, in the Lankavatara Sutra, it says: External forms do not exist; one's own mind appears as external. I think this explanation is also very good. Thus, relying on the Mind-Only school, one can easily realize the selflessness of persons and possessions, and the absence of inherent existence of the grasped and the grasper, etc. If the power of intelligence is not small and diligence is particularly great, then by examining that mind with the nature of one and many, one cannot see the essence in the ultimate sense. Therefore, by abandoning all extremes in the ultimate sense, one can realize the Madhyamika school. In the Ornament of Madhyamika, it says: Relying on Mind-Only,

Now it should be understood. Relying on this method, one should also understand the extreme selflessness. Thus it is said. This is also stated in the Lankavatara Sutra: Causes and conditions are reversed, and causes are also definitely blocked, and only consciousness is established, I have said there is no birth. The external objects of all things do not exist, and the mind is not completely grasped, in order to abandon all views, this is the nature of no birth. As it is said, it is explained in the Ornament of the Great Vehicle Sutras, the former verse explains no-birth in the manner of only consciousness, and the second verse explains no-birth from the point of view of the Madhyamaka school, as it is said in its commentary. In terms of convention, because it is empty of external objects, this is the manner of only consciousness, and in terms of ultimate truth, the manner of all dharmas being without self-nature, through these two methods one can attain the Great Vehicle, in that it says: Who rides in a chariot in two ways, grasping the reins of reason, those people therefore truly attain the Great Vehicle. So, if it is necessary to explain that this doctrine of the non-existence of external objects in terms of convention is the view of the Holy Nagarjuna, then which treatise is supposed to explain it? In the Ornament of the Middle Way it says: Here it is also said, here there is no birth at all, nor is there cessation or change, birth and cessation, are only knowledge. Speaking of the great elements and so on, are completely contained in consciousness, if it can be separated by knowledge, is it not a false distinction? Quoting this to establish that external objects do not exist, the latter verse comes from the Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning. If the first verse shows only consciousness, then how to explain the birth and death of the great elements? Because the latter verse establishes these two as appearing as those consciousnesses, they are contained in consciousness. If external objects exist even outside of consciousness, but do they exist in ultimate truth? Because it does not appear in correct wisdom, it is falsely distinguished. The commentary says that the first verse is quoted from the Lankavatara Sutra. Pages 501 to 600.
