Pages 501 to 600. Pages 501 to 600. Consider this translation as complete. The selflessness of phenomena, which is the absence of inherent existence, its meaning is "just that." If someone wonders, what lacks inherent existence? The so-called "inherent existence is just that," refers to the nature of the imputed, mentioned above, using "just that" to cut off others. It does not mean that the other two natures do not exist, but that only the nature of the imputed does not exist, and this is considered the perfected nature. The previously stated "from discrimination" to "just that" indicates that the dependent arising is shown as the basis of emptiness, and "the characteristic of the imputed is not established" clearly shows that the emptiness of the imputed is the perfected nature. Therefore, it is contradictory to consider the emptiness taught in this sutra as definitive meaning, and to consider the perfected nature as empty of the last inherent existence and the first inherent existence. Emptiness is not like a place being empty of a vase, denying its existence elsewhere, but like a person lacking substance, the dependent arising is established as empty of the nature of the imputed. Therefore, the sutra says, "That characteristic of the imputed is not completely established." What is the imputed that is empty? In the two instances where this sutra identifies the imputed, it does not mention any other imputed besides mere designation and difference, the reason for which will be explained later. Thus, just as the three characteristics are applied to the form aggregate, the remaining four aggregates, the twelve sources, the twelve links of dependent arising, the four foods, the six elements, and the eighteen elements should also each be applied with these three characteristics. For the truth of suffering, the basis remains the same, with "the truth of suffering" as the nature, and "completely knowing the truth of suffering," which is specifically established by names and terms, as the imputed. The dependent arising is as before, and the perfected nature is also the same as before, saying, "Inherent existence is just that, without inherent existence." Similarly, the remaining truths should also be applied in this way. The thirty-seven factors of enlightenment should also be applied in this way, with the basis remaining the same, with "correct concentration" as the nature, and the previously mentioned incompatible aspects and antidotes, etc., with "of that" as the difference.

The imputed parikalpita and the other two, svabhāva and paratantra, are taught like the truth of suffering. These are what were said earlier in the context of questioning the refutation of contradictions. For each of the aggregates of form to the limbs of the path, three characteristics are established, and with that in mind, the Teacher explained the three absence of self-nature. I have understood, so the noble and true Arya asked the Teacher. The fourth has two parts: quoting the sutra and briefly explaining its meaning. The first is: Thus, in the scriptures, there are teachings that phenomena exist by their own characteristics and that phenomena do not exist by their own characteristics, and three sutras that clearly distinguish between what is established and not established by their own characteristics have appeared. These also become two: clearly distinguishing between the existence and non-existence of self-nature and not distinguishing. What is distinguished should not be led to other meanings, so it is definitive meaning, and what is not distinguished must be led to other meanings, so it is interpretable meaning. There are also two of these, so two of the sutras are of interpretable meaning and one is of definitive meaning, as previously stated, which can be understood from the force of the words. The meaning that abides in the force of the words, in the order of time, is the way in which the interpretable and definitive meanings are transformed in conjunction with the three turnings of the wheel of Dharma, which the noble and true Arya asked the Teacher, as in the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra: The Blessed One first turned the wheel of Dharma, which was wonderful and amazing, in Varanasi (modern Varanasi), in the Deer Park of the Sage's Speech, showing the aspects of the four noble truths to those who had entered the vehicle of the Hearers, and no one, whether they were gods or humans in the past, had turned it in the world in accordance with it. The wheel of Dharma turned by the Blessed One is still supreme, has an opportunity, is a matter of interpretable meaning, and has become the basis of dispute. The Blessed One started from the absence of self-nature of all phenomena, from the absence of birth, the absence of cessation, from the beginning being peaceful, and from the nature of complete nirvana, and turned the second wheel of Dharma, which was extremely wonderful and amazing, for those who had entered the Great Vehicle, in the form of speaking of emptiness. The wheel of Dharma turned by the Blessed One is still supreme, has an opportunity, is a matter of interpretable meaning, and has become the basis of dispute.
