And dependent arising, in the Middle Way are of the same meaning, to the Buddha with unsurpassed and supreme speech, I prostrate. Also, as stated in the "Inconceivable Praise": Whoever speaks of all phenomena as dependent arising, and whose nature is emptiness. Incomparable wisdom is inconceivable, to the unparalleled one I prostrate. It is said that the first statement that dependent arising is free from the eight characteristics such as cessation, the second statement is that it is free from them because it is the cause of dependent arising, the third statement is that dependent arising, the Middle Way, and emptiness of nature are the same in meaning, and the fourth statement shows that because of that reason, cessation and so on are free from the nature of being established by their own characteristics. All the teachings of the Teacher enter based on the two truths, conventional and ultimate. If one does not understand the distinction between these two, one will not understand the true nature of the teachings. Therefore, the method of explaining the scriptures through the two truths is also the same. All that is taught as relying on something and the various phenomena that arise from reliance are conventional truths. The ultimate truth, because of that reason, is merely emptiness without being established by its own characteristics. As the "Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness" says: All things are empty by their own nature, because of the dependent arising of all things, the Tathagata taught it incomparably, the ultimate meaning ends there. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, based on worldly terms, truly established all kinds of things. So it is said. In its own commentary, it says: The ultimate truth ends in saying that all phenomena that arise dependently are empty of their own nature. As it is said, those who assert the ultimate truth, except for the difference in what is to be refuted, only on the basis of what is to be refuted, dependent arising, severing the self that is to be refuted, and establishing it as the ultimate truth, with the two chariot traditions being consistent, it is not appropriate to establish an ultimate truth other than that. If that itself is also accepted as true, then the "Root Wisdom" says: Those who see emptiness, they are said to be incurable. Thus, it is said to be an incurable view, and in the "Praise Beyond the World" it also says: In order to abandon all conceptual thoughts, if you show the nectar of emptiness, what

That to which you are attached, you deeply criticize. Thus it is said to be a place of extreme reproach. That phenomena, dependent arising, and the ultimate truth of suchness exist as the dependent and the relied upon is within the realm of conceptual consciousness, but not within the realm of the wisdom of stainless equipoise. Therefore, it is not contradictory that the suchness exists, but the phenomenon does not. However, in the ultimate sense of examining how phenomena exist in their own characteristics, if there is no phenomenon, then the suchness has no power to exist independently. Therefore, if the dependent arising of other-power is established by nature and is empty, then the perfectly established also does not become established by its own characteristics. The former system also says this. This system also says the same: If the compounded is not completely established, how can the uncompounded be established? It is said. The sutra says: If the form itself is not perceived, how can one see the suchness of form? As it is said, both systems have said it many times in response. The Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning says: Nirvana is the only truth. Thus, that alone is true, and all conditioned phenomena are false and deceptive phenomena. Saying that it is not true, the meaning of false is said here as deception, so the opposite meaning of truth is also non-deception, but when examining whether it exists or not, it is not the truth that exists by its own characteristics. Deception is like pretending to be beneficial when it is not, and deceiving is called deception. Likewise, these conditioned phenomena, although not established by their own characteristics, appear as such and deceive children, so they are called false or deceptive. Nirvana, the ultimate truth, is the realm of direct perception, and because it does not appear like the former and is not deceptive, it is called non-deceptive or true. If one does not want the dependent arising of persons and phenomena arising from dependence, but wants those two to be true, then the other schools fall into the abyss of the views of permanence and annihilation. If those two want to be dependent arising, but those self-schools who want those two to be established as that nature and established by their own characteristics are also influenced by the views of permanence and annihilation. If one wants to be free from the views of permanence and annihilation, then one should accept that persons and phenomena arise from dependence like the moon in water and are empty of nature. Thus, this principle is the essential door to abandoning permanence and annihilation.
