It is distinguished by the wisdom that appears as non-dual. Dualistic appearance is also false, so what is established by it is also false. The appearance of the grasper and the grasped has no characteristic of other meaning, and the characteristic of dualistic appearance does not exist as it appears, so it is said to be without inherent existence. Furthermore, the Pramāṇavārttika states: "The aggregates and other distinctions, all are characteristics, the distinguished one is not that either, that is also without those characteristics." Here, what is said to be the form aggregate, etc., is the signified, and what can become form, etc., is the signifier, all of which are distinguished by action and agency. Although their basis exists in matter, from the perspective of action and agency, they are not exactly the same, so they are also considered to be empty of characteristics. This is also common with the Śrāvakayāna school. The Pramāṇavārttika states: "If everything is powerless, seeds, etc., for sprouts, etc., if power is seen, that is all conventional, if admitted, how does it become that?" This is the same point as what was said earlier in the Pramāṇasamuccaya. Detailed explanations of these are not written due to the length. The second part is divided into two parts: identifying the object of negation, imputation, and how to refute them. The first part: The object of negation of this system's reasoning has two accusations, namely, what is established by the tenets, and the view of one's own school that asserts no inherent existence, as mentioned earlier. Imputation is divided into two types: conceptual imputation and innate imputation. Conceptual imputation is the view of other schools and one's own school's proponents of meaning. Innate imputation is further divided into imputation of a self of person, which will be explained later, so now the imputation of a self of phenomena will be explained. The self of phenomena established by the tenets is also for proving the self of phenomena grasped by innate imputation, and it is also the main object of negation of reasoning. Although many texts of this system explain the grasping of the grasper and the grasped as substantially different as the self-grasping of phenomena, other self-grasping of phenomena is not explained. However, the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra states that establishing the nature and difference of the other-dependent, the nature of the completely imputed by its own characteristics, because it does not exist with the inherent nature of characteristics, it explains the selflessness of phenomena by the characteristic of no inherent nature, implying the nature and difference on the other-dependent.

To hold that imputation is established by its own characteristics is taught as clinging to the self of phenomena. In the *Vyākaraṇavākyam* and the *Compendium* and *Condensed*, it is also proven by many efforts that the emptiness of how it is grasped is the ultimate meaning of Madhyamaka and the perfection of the selflessness of phenomena. If one does not know how this completely imputed, which imputes the self of phenomena onto the dependent, arises, one will not be able to definitively understand the clinging to the self of phenomena and the selflessness of phenomena in this system. The completely imputed, which is considered to be clinging to the self of phenomena by holding that it is established by its own characteristics, is the entity that is named and conceptualized as a distinction, such as "this is form" as the entity and "this is the arising of form" on the aggregates and so on. To that extent, the aggregates and so on exist, so holding that they exist there is not imputation, but holding that the entity of the aggregates and so on exists by its own characteristics is imputation. If denying that form and so on, which are the objects of names and concepts, are established by their own characteristics is denying that they are the actual objects of expression, then for those who speak of meaning, the actual expressed and the expressing, that is, the general meaning and the general sound, are already established as non-existent, so there is no need to prove emptiness through the dependent. Moreover, the selflessness of phenomena is not established by the measure that proves emptiness, and if one meditates on it, the obscuration of knowledge will not be purified. Therefore, the *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra* states that the emptiness of the completely imputed as being established by its own characteristics is the perfection of the selflessness of phenomena, and the *Yogācārabhūmi* states that emptiness is the object of focus that purifies the obscuration of knowledge, which are contradictory. If denying that form and so on are the objects of clinging of the expressing, and denying that the basis of the object of clinging—the existence of its own characteristics—then it would be denying that the dependent is established by its own characteristics. If denying that the self-characteristic of the object of clinging is established by its own characteristics, then the Sautrāntikas have also proven that the general characteristic measured by subsequent inference is not a real entity, so this view is not reasonable. Furthermore, the *Sūtra of the Transference of Existence* says: "By what and by what, are the phenomena expressed as what and what? In that, that is not existent; this is the nature of phenomena." This quote is also established for the Śrāvakabhūmi, so the emptiness of the completely imputed in the *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra* does not appear to be superior to that. For this way of emptiness, it is only the Mind-Only view that refutes the grasper and the grasped as being substantially different.
