In response, it is considered that the conceptualization (kun rtok) is the grasping and the grasper that appear as external objects and internal consciousness, appearing as a distant separation of grasper and grasped. It is said to be empty of such an existing nature, and it is said to be empty of nature, not that its own characteristic nature is completely non-existent. Thus it is said, the meaning of the teachings of the spiritual siblings is just like this, and it is also said that it exists in the ultimate sense, therefore this system is definitely not explained as other-empty self-empty. The way to dispel doubts with the third sentence is also like that. If the two are completely non-existent like a rabbit's horn, and the untrue conceptualization (kun tu rtok pa) exists by its own nature in the ultimate sense, then emptiness would not exist. Answer: It is not like that, but like this, emptiness exists here. In the untrue conceptualization, the grasper and the grasped do not exist, that is emptiness, therefore emptiness will not be non-existent. The statement that conceptualization exists and the two do not exist indicates that existence is prior and non-existence is later, thus dispelling the doubt that emptiness does not exist. Arguing that conceptualization exists by its own nature in the ultimate sense is taking the idea that if it is established by its own characteristic, it is considered to exist in the ultimate sense. The answer does not say that it does not admit that, but answers on the basis of admitting that. In the commentary on the Thirty Verses, it is also said: Or like consciousness, some people think that the knowable is also substantial; others think that like the knowable, consciousness also exists in the conventional sense, but not in the ultimate sense. Thinking that this is one-sided, in order to refute these two views, this treatise was composed. This is what this teacher said. Therefore, saying that other-dependence is not non-existent, as the previously cited Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra says, is to prevent the real existence that exists in the ultimate sense from being completely non-existent, or non-existent in all of everything, not to prevent the idea that the knowable cannot exist. The fourth line is to dispel the doubt that if the two-empty conceptualization always exists, why cannot it be realized. Because there is a mistaken conceptualization of dualistic appearance in emptiness, it is obscured by it. All phenomena being one-sidedly empty and non-empty, and existent and non-existent, would become extreme views, not Madhyamaka.

To refute the non-paths, the second verse was spoken: everything that is not empty by the conceptual and emptiness, and is not not empty by the two, the grasper and the grasped, are all the conditioned phenomena of the conceptual and the unconditioned phenomena of emptiness. The explanation is that, as stated in the Prajnaparamita Sutra and others, all of this is neither completely empty nor completely not empty, and it should be in accordance with this, as explained by Vasubandhu. To explain that what is not empty is the parinispanna-svabhava and what is not not empty is the other nature of self-nature is meaningless. What exists is the parikalpita, and what does not exist is the two, the parikalpita and emptiness exist mutually, and it should be as explained by the teacher and disciple Vasubandhu. If it is said that the two exist in different meanings, therefore one is empty, explanations contrary to these should not be explained according to the views of those people. In the Chapter on Kasyapa, existence and non-existence are separately stated as two extremes, and the middle of the two is the middle way of separately thinking about the dharmas, and that is the middle way. Thus it is said, and for this meaning, Sthiramati explained it. Therefore, this way of the Vijnaptimatrata school explains the meaning of the Madhyamaka, and according to the view of other Madhyamikas, they consider the latter to be more superior than the former, but this way considers the two to be the same meaning. In this way, the explanation methods of Vasubandhu and Sthiramati have been mentioned on different occasions. Dharmakirti also explained the meaning of the Eight Thousand Verses as the Eight Thousand Verses Meaning Collection in accordance with the view of the Abhisamayalankara. Dharmakirti said in the Pramanavarttika: "Because one of them does not exist, both will disappear. Therefore, whatever is empty of both, that is its reality." In this way, he spoke of emptiness other than the real things of the grasper and the grasped, that is, the other-emptiness as the suchness. Furthermore, the meaning of the sutras that say that dharmas are without self-nature is also explained as that meaning, that is: "The dharmas abide differently, they depend on different natures. That is deception, and those different ones are also deception. From the aspect of the grasped and the grasper, there is no other aspect. Therefore, because of the emptiness of aspects, it is said to be without self-nature." In this way, distinguishing things as different in terms of arising and so on, relies solely on self-awareness.
