It will not be. A thing that previously exists and later disappears is destruction, and its cause of destruction is that wisdom, if it becomes the cause of destruction, that is unreasonable, because self-existence is not accepted at any time. The Entering the Middle Way says: If self-nature becomes the basis, because of its negation, things will be destroyed, if emptiness becomes the cause of the destruction of things, that is unreasonable, therefore it is not real. If it exists only by its own nature, that wisdom does not need to observe, if it exists in the ultimate sense, then it needs to observe, but that is not admitted either, because establishment by its own nature is only nominal. If you say so, although this is the real basis for refutation, it cannot be refuted, and will be explained in the lower reasoning. The conventional truth is tolerable to be examined by reason, if all things are established by their own nature, for example, in the meaning of the established of establishing the name of birth, is this sprout produced from the seed as something different in nature, or is it produced as something of the same nature? When examining, the examiner must find it, otherwise, it will only be a nominal establishment, because there is no meaning of being established by self-existence. When searching and examining like this, apart from that reality of self-nature that is unborn and unceasing, other births etc. cannot be found. Therefore, the meanings of the conventional should not be regarded as meanings that can be found by examining in that way. The Entering the Middle Way says: Because if these things are analyzed, existence cannot be found outside of things with such a nature, therefore, the world's names are true and should not be analyzed. Regarding this, as previously stated, due to the key of disagreement on the boundary of the reasoning of examining in what way it can be established or not established as reality, therefore, although it is tolerable to examine with a similar method of examination as described here, it is not considered tolerable to examine with the reasoning of examining whether it is established as reality or not, therefore saying that there is no harm is the real basis of refutation, which is the same key as the previous refutation. The reason why those cannot be refuted is as previously stated many times, as stated by Chandrakirti on this occasion and on many other occasions, what exists in the conventional is what exists in the world's names. In terms of the world's names, a person.

Those phenomena that are established as existing are merely established on the basis of not examining how the meaning of the term exists. Conversely, establishing something as existing after examining it is what is said to exist ultimately. Therefore, if it exists by its own characteristic, it must be able to withstand rational scrutiny and must be an object for the wisdom that directly measures ultimate reality. If it is said that consciousnesses such as sense consciousnesses are not established by virtue of appearing to an uninjured consciousness, but exist by virtue of the way things themselves exist, then that is what exists ultimately. Therefore, if things do not exist by virtue of the way they themselves exist, but exist by virtue of appearing to an uninjured consciousness, then that exists in worldly convention, and is not established by virtue of the convention of names. If that is the case, then it contradicts what is said that all phenomena are merely names, symbols, and imputations, and that they exist by worldly symbols and conventions, but not ultimately. If there is a meaning that is found by examining how the imputed meaning of a term exists, then what does the word "merely" cut off? And how can it be said that it exists by worldly symbols? It is extremely inconsistent with the way worldly people accept the meaning of imputed terms, yet it is said to exist in worldly convention. Saying this is just saying it, because it does not want to express that meaning. The meaning found by searching for and examining the meaning of the term "person" cannot be established as a person, which is the sevenfold analysis. The meaning found by examining the meaning of the term "arising" and so on cannot be established as arising and so on, because in convention as well, it has already been extensively determined elsewhere by reasoning such as refuting other-arising, and should be understood from that. Therefore, the terms for phenomena and persons such as "a sprout arises" and "I see," and the terms such as "a sprout arises from a seed, a different substance" and "an existent self sees," when searching for how the meaning of whatever is named exists, although there is no difference in not finding it, there is a great difference in whether or not other valid cognitions harm the meaning that exists as it is named. Therefore, the former two exist in convention, while the latter two do not exist even in convention. This is also the difference between being harmed by reason and not being able to withstand examination, and the
