Although some say, "Because it is a nominal term," the difference between nominalists and the establishment or non-establishment, and the difference between the establishment or non-establishment of the two Madhyamikas are not clear. As mentioned earlier, for a name that is merely established as a nominal term, and the meaning of the nominal term cannot be found, if it is thought that cause and effect cannot be established, even if it is said many times that there is no self-characteristic in the nominal term, it is just saying it. Also, some people think that because the meaning established by valid cognition does not exist at all, they rely on what the other party admits or the ultimate of what is admitted, and use consequentialism to prevent wrong thoughts, and merely decide that the non-reality of the truth is the meaning of having no self-continuum of reason and promise. Others think that all the establishments based on conventional and ultimate are said for the sake of others, not for their own school. Having said that, they also say that it was not done by themselves, but only for the sake of the appearance of others. This was not the case with the self-continuum preventers of the past, but only said by the later ones. Some of those people admit the uncommon object of negation of this school, and most of them also prevent the dependent arising established by valid cognition, so they appear to be the main figures of the early side of this school. The refutations and establishments of those people have been extensively explained in the "Stages of the Path to Enlightenment," so I will not repeat them. The second part has two sections: the way in which the reason establishes the thesis, and the way in which the self-continuum reason is not admitted. The first is that one's own school is that if one wants to establish it with one's own nature, as stated in the "Explanation of Intentions," then one must have a self-continuum, just like the realists of one's own school and Lekden and others. If one does not admit the dharma established by self-characteristics in the nominal term, then one must undoubtedly not admit the self-continuum, so this also leads to preventing from the subtle object of negation. That is to say, if there is no establishment by self-characteristics even in the nominal term, then if it is thought that establishing one's own thesis and the means of establishing it, as well as valid cognition and the object to be measured, are contradictory, it is not that one does not admit the self-continuum, because in the root verses and commentary of the "Entering the Middle Way," it is examined whether the cause produces the fruit from meeting or not meeting, and the two views are prevented, and in the commentary it is said that the fault is applied to the means of establishing of the other party, according to whose view, one's own body

Regarding the very nature of arising and the act of causing to arise, this analysis is applied. Examining the assertion of cause and effect established by self-character, there are two faults, but for those who claim that things are without inherent existence like illusions, there are no such faults, as stated. In response to the opponent's attempt to refute with a similar argument, is the refuter refuting the refutable by contact, or is it the act of refuting? Or is it after contact? Since it has already been said, where is the fault in this? There must be a position, but for the subject of change, this position does not exist, therefore this inference is not valid. Thus, to explain why these two are not the same, it is said in the root text that one has no position, and in the commentary it says: Both refuting and being refuted are not established by their own nature. Having no position means not acknowledging establishment by self-character or inherent existence, which is the same as explaining the reason for dissimilarity in the context of cause and effect. In this context, the commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way" quotes Shariputra asking Subhuti: Does one attain the attainment of the unarisen through the arisen dharma, or does one attain the attainment of the arisen? The answer was that neither is accepted. Then he asked: Are there no attainment and realization? The answer was: Both exist, but not in a dualistic way. These two, as well as stream-enterers and so on, are also worldly terms, but in ultimate truth, there is no attainment and no realization. Similarly, it says therein: Here, because of how one would fall into duality, the attainment of arisen and unarisen dharmas is prevented. And because duality is unreasonable for non-entities, the attainment is acknowledged as attainable in worldly terms without examination, just as the refutable and the refuter are neither in contact nor not in contact, yet in conventional terms, one should know that the refuter is refuting the refutable. Furthermore, the refuter, who is empty of inherent existence, refutes the refutable, and the thesis to be proven is established by a reason that is empty of inherent existence and devoid of validity. Thus, all establishment and refutation are done by the two abbots.
