It is a view that clings to self-awareness. That is to say, when one remembers seeing blue before, one thinks, "I saw it before," because one remembers that what one saw before is what one saw oneself, so this way of remembering, if the previous cognition of blue was not personally experienced, it would contradict the arising of memory, so it is thought that the previous one is self-aware. Even if this is not caused by self-awareness, it is because the previous experience of the blue object and the subsequent memory both point to the same object, so the memory of "I saw it before" arises. In this regard, in order to prove that the object experienced and determined by the previous blue cognition is not what the subsequent blue cognition memory has not experienced and not determined, our view is that experience and memory, in terms of their own characteristics, are not other. If it is only such a reason, then what was experienced by Maitreya would also become what was remembered by Nyer-be. Therefore, if these two are established as different entities according to the view of others, then the innate wisdom will cling to different entities. If this is the case, what was seen by the previous blue cognition will not be clung to as seen by the subsequent memory, so the experience and memory pointing to the same object contradict each other, so the memory of "I saw it before" is also difficult to arise. According to our view, these two are not different entities, and the innate wisdom does not cling to them in that way, so the previous one determined that object, and the memory clings to "I determined it," which is also not contradictory. That is to say, because it is guided by the previous experience, it points to the object, not autonomously determining the object, but for oneself, not for others. Therefore, not admitting self-awareness as a nominal term is also because it denies being established by its own nature even in nominal terms, which is the ultimate conclusion. Regarding experience, whether one's own experience and the experience of others are clearly distinguished, although it is not clearly stated, it is intended not to distinguish. Because a lamp does not admit that it illuminates itself, but it also admits that it illuminates, so it is like not distinguishing between oneself and others illuminating. If it is said that a lamp does not illuminate itself, there is no fault of not being established as a valid cognition (藏文:ཚད་མ།,梵文天城体:प्रमाण,梵文罗马拟音:pramāṇa,汉语字面意思:量), if consciousness does not know itself, it will become not established as a valid cognition, so it is different from a lamp. If it is retorted that if a lamp does not illuminate itself, others will not illuminate either, so it will not illuminate, nor will it illuminate other things, so it is not established as a valid cognition, then what is the answer? Even if neither oneself nor others can illuminate, but vases etc.

If it is thought that illuminating is established because it illuminates, then it is the same for consciousness as well. If it is thought that the consciousness of an object depends solely on self-awareness, and without it, the consciousness of an object is not established, then it is the same for a lamp as well. If that is the case, we say that a lamp illuminates itself, which is unreasonable because it is impossible to be obscured by darkness, and darkness would also obscure itself. If this is thought, then darkness would not be seen. In short, consciousness is established in dependence on what is known, so it is not established by its own nature, and what is known is also the same. For this reason, not only are the terms of these two mutually dependent, but their meanings are also merely mutually dependent imputations, so self-awareness is not accepted. In the Refutation of Objections, it is also said: If a valid cognition is established from itself, without relying on what is to be measured, your valid cognition is established here, self-established without relying on others. It can also be understood by the reasoning that refutes self-awareness. Then, I saw blue before, the I who remembers is a person, and the consciousness that apprehends blue, these two are contradictory. If that is how it is remembered, how could that memory become a memory of apprehending blue? Even if the eye consciousness that apprehends blue and the person who saw blue are contradictory, it is not contradictory that consciousness relies on seeing blue and is established as I saw. Similarly, what contradiction is there in the fact that the consciousness that apprehends blue relies on the memory of seeing blue, and the person who remembers remembers the consciousness that apprehends blue? Third, there are two parts: the way in which the Svātantrika is refuted and the views of others on how to explain its meaning, and the existence of a reason that establishes the proponent's thesis in one's own system and the way in which there is no reason in the Svātantrika system. First, if the meaning of the scriptures is explained in this way, it is necessary to accept the Svātantrika, and if it is explained in that way, it is not permissible to accept it. Although this meaning is very much in accordance with the scriptures, in the translations of the treatises of one's own school, after measuring which of the consequentialist and Svātantrika should be accepted, the statement that the Svātantrika is unreasonable and the consequentialist is reasonable did not actually arise from the followers of Chandrakirti. The way it arose is that when Buddhapālita was explaining the meaning of the verses such as "Not from self, not from other," Bhāvaviveka seized upon the fault, and in showing that it was not permissible, in the Clear Words, he said that Buddhapālita did not accept the Svātantrika, and
