If one can understand that even without the characteristic of (things), it can be established as existent, then one can well understand the reasoning that cannot distinguish between the consciousness of things and the consciousness of non-things, and without that (understanding), one will be confused. Therefore, by refuting the indivisible atom, because it does not exist, the gross (things) accumulated by it also do not exist, and because both the subtle and the gross do not exist, the external world does not exist, and so on. Although it can refute the indivisible of the external world, it cannot refute the existence of the external world, therefore, both the scriptures and the reputation of the world are harmful to it, which is said in the commentary of the Hundred Treatises. In terms of scriptures, the Avatamsaka Sutra says that the three realms are only mind, and the word "only" in the sutra does not negate these (external objects), because the sutra clearly says that it negates the creator of the world other than the mind, which is similar to the Samdhinirmocana Sutra. "External appearance is non-existent" and so on, Acharya Chandrakirti does not explain that the sutra does not negate the external world as Acharya Asanga explained, but explains that even if the sutra says so, it is provisional meaning. Therefore, for the Avatamsaka Sutra, it is not said that it is provisional meaning, but it is denied that it is not the meaning of the sutra, and for the scriptures of the Lankavatara Sutra, it is not said that it is not the meaning of the sutra, but it is said that the sutra is provisional meaning. In the Prajnaparamita Sutra, the five aggregates are shown to be empty without difference, and it should be like in the Abhidharma, where the self-characteristics and common characteristics of the five aggregates are declared at the same time. If one examines the way of existence of the imputed meaning of establishing names on both the consciousness of things and the consciousness of non-things, one will find that they are the same. Even so, due to the power of names, there is no difference in establishing existence in the conventional, probably thinking like this. Therefore, for such things, distinguishing the difference between existence and non-existence transcends the names of worldly people, and also transcends the establishment of ultimate truth, so it will fall from the two truths, as it is said in the Hundred Treatises: "Saying one exists, one does not exist, it is not its nature, nor is it worldly. Therefore, this exists, this does not exist, it cannot be said." The intention of the noble ones is also the same. "Saying the great elements, all enter into consciousness." The meaning of etc. is that form, mind, mental factors, and non-associated formations, for the consciousness that focuses on itself, by establishing the appearance of itself, attach (them) to the great elements, etc., because if the appearance is not established, it is impossible to establish any existence.
