Therefore, the elements and so on are included in the category of consciousness, because they are merely posited by it. When one directly knows that the nature of consciousness is not self-arisen, then, just as the image disappears when the form ceases, the various things posited by it will also separate and vanish. As explained in my commentary, therefore, this scripture is not negating external objects. There is no fault in not accepting the ālaya-vijñāna either, because like this: Karma accumulates for a long time in samsara and then produces its result, but karma is destroyed in the second moment, and no result can arise from destroyed karma. Therefore, if the ālaya-vijñāna is accepted as the basis of karma and its result, then, although it is not established by its own nature, it can be established as real, and it is very reasonable for destroyed things to be real, so there is no need for the ālaya-vijñāna. The Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra says: Because that which is of its own nature does not cease, therefore, even without the ālaya-vijñāna, this is possible. In some cases, even after karma has ceased for a long time, one can recognize that a true result arises. It is said. In conventional truth, one can also negate establishment by self-characteristics and establish cause and effect without inherent existence. In this way, it is easy to avoid the views of permanence and annihilation in both truths, and even if one does not accept the ālaya-vijñāna, the relationship between karma and its result is still reasonable. The commentary on the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra says: Therefore, in this way, in both truths, because there is no inherent existence, not only is the view of permanence and annihilation abandoned far away, but even if karmas have ceased for a long time, the relationship between karmas and their results can be established without the need for the continuum of the ālaya-vijñāna, non-loss, and attainment, etc. It is said. Therefore, the reason for saying "therefore" is that non-inherent existence arises from non-inherent existence, which was said before. Although it is necessary to avoid other faults such as the unreasonableness of the last moment of death and the first moment of birth by not accepting the ālaya-vijñāna, Candrakīrti did not say this because he thought that if one knows this principle, one can know the others, and he did not elaborate here for fear of being verbose. The key to accepting external objects is also not to establish the ālaya-vijñāna. If one accepts it, then the Madhyāntavibhāga says: Object and sentient being and self-consciousness, the appearance of consciousness arises excellently, because that does not exist, this also does not exist. Because it says so.

Because it is necessary to think so. Regarding the method of establishing destruction as a real entity, it has been said in the commentary on the Words of Clarity and the Treatise on the Sixty Stanzas, and it will be explained in the commentary on the Root Wisdom. The key to considering destruction as a real entity is that there are also extraordinary differences in establishing the three times. Regarding the previous position of those who assert self-awareness and its refutation, it is stated in the Root Text and Commentary of the Engaging in the Middle Way as follows: Since it is impossible to remember what has not been experienced before, memory arises from experience. Moreover, since there is memory of the object, "I saw this before," and the subject, "I saw," it follows that there is experience in something like the previous apprehension consciousness. If consciousness is experienced by another entity, then that entity must also be experienced by another, thus leading to an infinite regress. If the previous consciousness is the object of experience for the later consciousness, then the later consciousness will not cut off other objects such as form, so it must be experienced by oneself, because experience is definitely one of these two. Therefore, if it is said that later memory establishes that the object experienced earlier is self-awareness, then if we are doing this in terms of establishing substance, there is no such memory, so it is the same as what is to be established. If it is in terms of convention, then self-awareness is not established for the opponent, so it and memory will not be established as cause and effect, just as establishing that there is water crystal and fire crystal because there is water and fire, and establishing that there is self-awareness because there is memory. These two are the same. This is a consequential sign, and it is done in terms of taking self-awareness as the dharma to be established. If you do that, you won't find an example, so you can establish that the apprehender of blue has an experiencer because there is later memory, for example, like blue, although there is only a trace of the property of the sign in the example, it is not possible to establish pervasion, so it is the same as taking self-awareness as the dharma to be established, so it is not explicitly stated, even if only experience is established, it is already established, so it is not stated like that. According to our own system, even without self-awareness, there is no contradiction in the arising of memory, because: Because by whom the object is experienced, from that, this other memory is not with me, therefore I will remember that I saw, this is also the way of worldly convention. This is shown by that. The reason for holding that if there is no self-awareness, the arising of memory is contradictory, which was previously explained, is not eliminated by this, because this relies on the special way of remembering the arising of memory,
