Although there is no nature of being without a basis, even so, this exists in conventional truth. Therefore, the teachers establish it as being established only through mutual dependence. It is said that, for designating earth and hardness, etc., as the signified and the signifier, if one also seeks the object to which the term 'signifier' applies, as before, and establishes it as the meaning that is found, then the two cannot be established, but they can be established as existing through mutual dependence. The way of establishing persons and phenomena must be accepted as the only certainty with reasons, and the reason is at the very end of that scripture: This should be accepted as it is without doubt. If it is not so, then conventional truth is not reasonable, or it will become ultimate truth and not conventional truth. When analyzed with reason, it is not only things like cataracts that are impossible. What is it then? With the reason that will be explained, form and feeling, etc., also do not exist, so they should also be accepted as not existing in conventional truth, like cataracts, etc., but that is not the case, so this does not exist. It is said that the way of establishing dependent designation needs to be understood from the Madhyamakāvatāra. Therefore, if one analyzes as before and establishes the meaning that is found as existing in name, then it is established by the reason of analyzing whether it is established or not. That is not existing in conventional truth, but it becomes existing in ultimate truth, thus showing that if it is established by its own character, then it is established in ultimate truth. Then, in the two truths: Because of the nature of how it appears, analysis should not be applied to this. If one analyzes separately, the meaning will become other, causing harm. As it is said, do the Svātantrika Madhyamikas not also prevent analyzing the meaning of conventional truth with reason and establishing it as the meaning that is found? What is your characteristic that things that exist in name are not analyzed for their meaning with reason? This is a debate that has not distinguished the difference between the analytical methods of the two Madhyamika schools, with what kind of analytical method one analyzes, thereby analyzing whether it is established or not. The Prāsaṅgikas consider that merely analyzing as before can analyze whether it is established or not. The scriptures quoted earlier and the things that exist are also names, terms, and names,

The reason for this is that it has been explained many times. The meaning of just the name is, as before, that when searching for the meaning of the term, it cannot be found, which means that there is a name but no reality, or that there is no meaning without a name. Here, although it is not accepted that everything established by the mind that imputes names exists in convention, it is not accepted that what is not established by the power of the mind that imputes names exists in convention. The Madhyamaka Svatantrikas believe that they cannot establish forms, feelings, etc., by the power of the mind that imputes names, but they can establish existence in convention by the power of appearance to the unimpaired sense consciousnesses, etc. Therefore, there is a great difference in the mind that establishes or does not establish by the power of the mind. They believe that instead of being established by such a mind, they examine existence and non-existence, etc., by the power of the way things are in themselves, and then examine whether or not they are established only in that way. They do not accept only the method of examination mentioned earlier, so they believe that in convention, it is established by its own characteristics. Therefore, there is also disagreement about what the word "only" in the scriptures cuts off when it says that conventional names are merely conventions and designations. So, for worldly people, there are also many examinations such as whether they have come or not, whether they are born or not, etc. If they are asked in this way, can they not say that they have come and been born? The way of searching and the way of examining here are very different from before. This is because, for those who come and go and the designation of coming and going, they are not satisfied with just designating them in this way, but they think about what the meaning of those designations is, and they do not ask about coming and going in this way. Rather, they arbitrarily apply the designation of coming and going, and they have made an arbitrary observation, so what contradiction is there in accepting that observation? In this way, examining the meaning of the designation and clinging to the existence of self-nature established by its own characteristics is not the way of clinging of innate self-grasping. It is innate self-grasping that binds sentient beings to samsara, so it is this that the wise mainly need to refute, so what is its way of clinging? That is, they believe that external and internal phenomena are not merely established by the power of designation, but exist from the point of view of their own essence. That is to say, if they cling to a person who makes offerings and gives alms in this way, that is the self-grasping of a person, and if they cling to phenomena such as eyes and ears in this way, that is the self-grasping of phenomena.
