All tenets not belonging to the Svatantrika school similarly accept this. Likewise, conditioned phenomena such as form and feeling, and unconditioned phenomena, even the mere exclusion of tangibles as asserted by the Sautrantikas, even up to being placed on space, are all considered to exist as established by valid cognition. When establishing that everything is existent, one seeks how the object of application, to which the terms of each name apply, is established. If the meaning it establishes is not found, it cannot be established as existent. Therefore, the opposite of that is established as existent. From the texts of logic, only that which can perform a function is considered a self-characteristic, while in the Abhidharma Sutra and others, that which distinguishes itself from others, like the heat of fire, is described as its own characteristic. And the self-characteristic established by its own characteristic is extremely different. The system of Chandrakirti does not accept establishing existence in such a way, not even nominally. Therefore, regarding his own way of establishing terms, the Prasannapadā states: "Furthermore, if one does not examine the basis of the body as a distinguishing feature, which has become a part of worldly terminology, the established basis, such as pus and the head as the basis, the flesh-eating demon, are like those imputed to persons and so forth, because they exist, this example is not reasonable." This refers to the fact that in the world, when one says "the body of pus" and "the head of the flesh-eating demon," although there is no difference between the body and the head and the distinction, just as the basis and attribute are allowed in conceptual thought, for the statement "the self-nature of earth is hardness," although there is no earth that is not hard, such terminology is used. In response to this, when attachment to the body and the head arises from the words "body" and "head," wanting to know what the body is and what the head is, based on the distinction, the Sugata also wants to negate that it is not the body and head of pus and the flesh-eating demon. Therefore, following worldly customs, it is reasonable to dispel the listener's doubts with the words of the distinguishing attributes, pus and the flesh-eating demon. Because there is no earth that is not hard, there is no need to dispel such doubts for the statement "the self-nature of earth is hardness." Therefore, the example and the meaning are not the same. After answering in this way, another reason why the example is not established is also pointed out, namely, the basis of distinction, the body and the head, and the basis of the distinguishing attribute, pus and the flesh-eating demon, are worldly term

Therefore, since it has been established as distinct, it is explained that these two dissimilar examples are not established. If one seeks the basis for applying the term, one will not find different things, because the enemy's head is called an enemy, and if one seeks the meaning of pus and its body, one will not find them separately. To this, a rebuttal was made and refuted, because the text says in the following passage, if only because this much is pointed out, other things different from the body and head are not established, then the example is established. Answer: It is not so, because worldly terms do not allow such analysis, and worldly things exist without being examined. The listener thinks that even if there is only such a basis, when examining the meaning of the term, one cannot find pus and enemies that are established separately from the body and head, so the argument that these are not established as the basis is the way that others establish the existence of things as previously stated. The answer is: existence is in worldly terms, and for it, it is not established after such examination, but it is established without examination. If it is established after examination, it cannot be established, and the way of establishing without examination is also stated in the following passage of that scripture, if how to examine separately, from the form and other dharmas, although there is no self different from them, but relying on the aggregates, in the worldly conventional truth, this is indeed existent, and likewise, the enemy and pus are also like that, so there is no established example, thus the way of establishing the person is explained. When saying "Devadatta's form, Devadatta's mind", if one examines the basis on which that term is established, how Devadatta and his form and mind are established, then those dharmas are not Devadatta, and Devadatta different from his form and mind etc. cannot be found, so for the meaning found after examination and search, there is no place to establish Devadatta, that is "no self". That is because Devadatta is not established by his own nature, but it is not that there is no Devadatta, so just as it exists in the worldly by relying on the aggregates, these two examples are also established in this way. The way of establishing dharmas is also stated in the following passage of that scripture, likewise, if one examines separately, for the earth and other dharmas, there is no characteristic different from hardness etc., and no different from the characteristic
