Just as it is said without reversing, the system that we have here expounded with refutations and answers, like the Dharma of emptiness, is not found in other treatises, so please, all wise ones, be sure to ascertain. Therefore, some say that what the Sutra School says is the ultimate truth is what the Madhyamikas consider to be conventional truth. This statement is made only by those who do not understand the reality of the Madhyamika treatises, and this should be understood. After saying this, it was also said in the same way for the Vaibhashika school, and finally it was said that, like this, the transcendental Dharma should not be the same as the mundane Dharma, because this system is uncommon, and the wise should be sure to ascertain. One's own system, the Madhyamika, with uncommon reasoning, considers the ultimate truth spoken by the two-truth proponents to be the conventional truth of the Madhyamikas, and the reason for considering it as not understanding the reality of the Madhyamika is that one's own system does not accept dharmas established by their own characteristics even in name, and those are only established on top of that. If either of the two truths is lost, the other will also be lost, so the transcendental Dharma that has not deviated from the path of the two truths cannot be the same as the mundane Dharma that has deviated from the two truths in any way, so this noble system is uncommon not only in the ultimate truth but also in the conventional truth with the tenets that speak of entities. In the self-commentary on the two truths, it says: "What others have made the ultimate, that is the conventional for others; what others consider butter, it is also considered like the wife of others." The source cited is said in the commentary to be Nagarjuna's, but it is not so, as can be known from the commentary on the Engaging in the Bodhisattva Deeds. The author of that commentary is said to be Shantarakshita, which is also just a coincidence of names or a borrowing, and is not the author of treatises such as the Ornament of the Middle Way, because he refutes the necessity of writing treatises explained in the commentary on the Compendium on the Reality of Valid Cognition, and says that grasping and clinging, which appear as they appear, do not exist, which contradicts direct perception and is also harmed by fame, which is true.

The two self-commentaries explain that the reason is to interpret the meaning of retaining the sound as a reasonable direction. Furthermore, the commentary on the "Entering the Middle Way" states that, from the ultimate point of view, since there is no arising, it is necessary to refute arising from self and other. However, whatever forms and feelings, etc., are perceived by direct perception and inference, their nature will undoubtedly arise from others. If one does not accept this, then what is the point of speaking of two truths? It will only become one truth. Therefore, arising from others does exist. It is said that, above, the cause and effect established by self-characteristics are refuted. It is reasonable to refute other-arising after refuting it in the ultimate sense, but in conventional terms, one must accept other-arising that arises by nature or self-characteristic. If one does not accept this, then there is no truth even in the conventional sense, so it will become that there is no conventional truth. Refuting in this way, it is then successively established that arising by self-characteristic does not exist in either of the two truths. This is not for the Madhyamikas, who, although do not arise in the ultimate sense, but in the conventional sense, believe that arising by self-characteristic exists, but for those who speak of entities to be established. If the difference in what is to be refuted between the two Madhyamikas is only this much, then why did Chandrakirti not make a special refutation of it? It is unreasonable to say so. Secondly, there are two parts: First, explaining how the imputed and innate clinging are grasped, and then showing that they do not exist; and explaining the meaning of the two selflessnesses also taught by the Hearers based on the scriptures. The first is: If so, in what way is it grasped that it is grasped as established by its own nature? In this regard, first, the views of the proponents of philosophical tenets should be stated: This person did this action and experienced this result. When such a term is applied, is this person's own aggregates the person, or is it something other than them? Thus, the meaning of the term "person" is sought. If any aspect of the same meaning with different meanings is found, and a place to establish the person is found, then it can be established as the one who accumulates karma, etc. If it is not found, it cannot be established. Therefore, one is not satisfied with merely applying the term "person," but examines and seeks what the basis upon which that term is applied is. If it is established, then it is established that the person is established by his own nature. From the Vaibhashikas of our own school to the Madhyamikas.
