Or, if we examine the nature of Suchness based on its own essence, it is non-existent, as explained in the commentary on the Ornament. If the arising of things and so on exist in Suchness, then their ultimate truth and the wisdom that measures Suchness must be established. Since they are not established, it shows that the arising of things and so on are not established in Suchness. Therefore, it can also be said that there is no arising in the ultimate sense. Then, in what way does arising become established as being established in Suchness? For example, the basis of transformation, such as wood and donkeys, that are transformed into illusory horses and cattle, appear as horses and cattle when the eyes are deluded. At that time, the consciousness only appears as such, but the wood and so on do not appear as such, and cannot know or speak. Similarly, when a sprout appears to arise from a seed, it is only an appearance to consciousness, and it cannot be said that it arises from that. Then, if the sprout arises from the seed from its own side, is it an ultimate arising? There is no fault, because from the perspective of the basis of transformation, there is also an appearance of horses and cattle, but this is only due to the consciousness of the deluded eyes, and it is not produced from its own inherent causes and conditions. Otherwise, it would also appear as such when the eyes are not deluded. Similarly, the arising of a sprout from a seed is not established without relying on the appearance of such to the conventional mind, but the sprout does not arise from its own state of being. In this way, it is not established without relying on the appearance of the consciousness that is its object, but to hold that the sprout arises from its own state of being is to hold that arising exists in the ultimate sense. Therefore, one should also understand that arising exists in the ultimate and Suchness, and one should also understand whether the arising of all other phenomena exists in the ultimate, Suchness, and true sense. This is from the Madhyamaka Aloka. Therefore, it will also be seen that it truly shows all sentient beings as if they were the nature of things. Therefore, due to their thoughts, all false natures of things exist only conventionally. This is to say that the conventional consciousness that mistakes the absence of self-nature in the ultimate sense as existence arises from beginningless habits, and it causes sentient beings to

Because it shows things as they are, it is said that those things that exist by the power of their thoughts exist conventionally. Since its opposite must be ultimately existent, it is explained based on that, and all the views of the Svatantrika Madhyamaka school are similar to this. Like innate self-grasping, although it cannot be established as existing nominally by the power of appearing to an unexamined mind, it can be established as truly existing nominally by the power of appearing to a nominal consciousness that is not harmed by other valid cognitions. Because in this school's view, there are also nominal places established by the power of appearing to such consciousnesses, it is specifically said, "not established by the power of the appearance of one's own object-possessing consciousness." Although the object of grasping at truth considers the emptiness of those bases to be their ultimate truth, those are also not established by the power of a state that is not established by the power of appearing to one's own object-possessing consciousness. Through this, one should also understand the meaning of emptiness as emptiness. The previously mentioned grasping at truth is the innate grasping at truth in this school's view, and even for sentient beings who do not understand words, although there is no grasping in the way of connecting those names and meanings, it is still meaningful. Therefore, if the object of grasping at truth is established, it will ultimately become an object that can withstand rational analysis, an indivisible object, and the three characteristics of self-nature, etc. Although it can be refuted in this way, grasping at those is not the meaning of grasping at truth, because even if those are refuted, the meaning of non-truth cannot be established. Because the meaning of grasping at truth in this school is not well understood, if there is something to be measured by reason, it will become truly established, so some of the previous scholars also thought so, some thought that reason has no object, and others distinguished the difference between reason and inference, thus establishing it as having or not having an object. In short, one should recognize the innate self-grasping of phenomena, and know that all the reasons for refuting the self of phenomena are the direct and indirect parts of refuting it. Through listening, speaking, and thinking, one should repeatedly examine how much harm has been done to one's own continuum of grasping, and know that this is the essence of the instruction. When explaining selflessness in one's own school in other situations, one should also observe in the same way. Second, refuting such an object of negation
