It is said in the "Lamp of Wisdom" that reason should be acknowledged. Reason is stated in the "Root Wisdom Treatise": The reversal of what is to be said is the reversal of the mind's field of activity. Unborn and unceasing, the nature of reality is the same as nirvana. That is to say, it is not that in order to prevent the establishment of something that is nominally designated as a pot due to abdominal distension in the ultimate sense, the reason of Madhyamaka is needed. In the "Blazing Argumentation," it is said that even the mute and the deaf, who do not understand names, can know things like pots. Cattle and the like can also distinguish their own and others' offspring from smells and shapes. Therefore, the nominal designation of names does not abide in the suchness of things, which is the same for both Yogachara and Madhyamaka. Therefore, the object of clinging to this as form, this as the arising of form, etc., is the meaning designated by it. Moreover, in conventional terms, since it exists by its own characteristics, it is not without its own characteristics, and it prevents existence in the ultimate sense. Therefore, explaining that the absence of self-characteristics in the ultimate sense is the meaning of the sutra. At that time, the sutra says that the completely imputed is without self-characteristics, and the completely imputed here is the object of clinging that is completely imputed in the ultimate sense. The sutra says that it is name and designation, which means that it is merely a designation by verbal imputation. If so, do not think that the sutra speaks of the other-dependent absence of self-characteristics, not the completely imputed. Otherwise, in the Yogachara view, for the other-dependent nature and the specially designated nature, if it is not established by its own characteristics, it cannot be said to be the completely imputed absence of self-characteristics. Therefore, the emptiness of the nature of form and its arising, etc., in the ultimate sense is the perfectly established nature, which is the meaning of the sutra. It is said that it is not the meaning of the sutra as explained by the Yogachara. Similarly, the sutra says that the other-dependent non-self-existence is the non-self-existence of arising, and the non-self-existence of arising here has the same meaning as the non-self-existence of arising and the non-self-existence of arising mentioned in other sutras. This teacher thinks so, and thinks that this is the meaning of unborn in the ultimate sense. Thus, self-existence is the arising established by its own characteristics.

If it is "existent," then when negating things, since it is necessary to combine the ultimate distinction, the arising established by its own characteristics is acknowledged in conventional terms. The Yogācāra school also considers the statements in the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra, "arising from itself" and "arising from others by nature," to be consistent in meaning. They believe that its non-arising refers to the absence of autonomous arising, so without it, there is no need for ultimate non-arising. They believe that if other-powered nature were truly established, it would have to be established as it appears, so it is not credible that it is spoken of in the sūtras as being like an illusion, therefore they explain its emptiness of inherent existence as the meaning of the Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra. Secondly, now we will explain whether phenomena are considered to be objects or consciousness in conventional truth. On this, the noble father and son (Asaṅga and Vasubandhu) did not clearly explain by distinguishing between the existence and non-existence of external objects in conventional terms, but this teacher (Dignāga) believes that external objects exist in conventional terms, and that sense consciousness does not apprehend objects in a non-image manner, but apprehends them through images, and considers these two to be related as cause and effect. The Daśabhūmika Sūtra states, "The three realms are only mind (སེམས་ཙམ།,梵文:cittamātra,梵文罗马拟音:chittamātra,唯是心)," which is not, as other schools believe, to negate the creator of the world other than the mind, but is the meaning of the sūtra, so it is not negating objects. In the Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra, it says, "External appearances are existent and non-existent, like the body, enjoyment, and dwelling place, because the mind manifests various appearances, I say it is only mind (སེམས་ཙམ།,梵文:cittamātra,梵文罗马拟音:chittamātra,唯是心)." Therefore, they believe that this is not negating external objects, so negating external objects is not the meaning of any sūtra, and it should be examined. The meaning of the first line of that sūtra is that external objects do not exist from their own nature. Like the body, enjoyment, and dwelling place, the mind arises in various appearances, which means that it arises with appearances similar to those things, as explained in the Prajñāpradīpa. The meaning of "only mind (སེམས་ཙམ།,梵文:cittamātra,梵文罗马拟音:chittamātra,唯是心)" is as before. When accumulating forms, sounds, etc., even each atom acts as the objective condition for sense consciousness, so they are not invisible to it. Armies and forests, etc., which depend on different kinds of things, are aggregates. Even if it is not a substance, the similar atoms that depend on the same basis are accumulations, and the same is true of pots, etc., so it is a substance. Like the appearance of two moons, etc.
