The reason for doing so is also because it is stated in the Compendium of Topics. Realizing the absence of self of a person purifies afflictions, and liberation by merely abandoning afflictions is no different in the Great Vehicle and the Small Vehicle, therefore it is also said that the path of purification and purification are the same. Aggregates, etc., are other-powered, and imputing self of phenomena to them is the completely imputed, and its emptiness is the perfectly established absence of self of phenomena, which is the implication of explaining the meaning of the Great Vehicle sutras. The other-powered nature of the aggregates is empty of the completely imputed self of a person, and the classification of the three natures is established as the perfectly established absence of self of a person, only these meanings of the Small Vehicle sutras can be understood. Therefore, the trainees to whom the first turning of the wheel of Dharma was taught are suitable vessels for realizing the characteristic of absence of inherent existence in terms of the absence of self of a person, but the contemplation explains that it was taught to those who are not suitable vessels for realizing the characteristic of absence of inherent existence in terms of the absence of self of phenomena. Therefore, the meaning of the well-discriminated wheel of Dharma being taught for the purpose of entering all vehicles is this. If, in all cases of emptiness of the completely imputed nature of entity and difference, and the apprehended and apprehender as different entities, the other-powered nature itself must be taken as the basis of emptiness, and if it is empty in the manner of being the former two, then it must become the perfectly established, then Vasubandhu says in the Destruction of the Three Aggregates: 'The eye in it is called the eye of the Dharma nature. The eye means the eye that is completely imputed and nominally designated. Empty means a synonym for separation. Similarly, it should be applied to ear, empty by ear, etc.' Thus, how should it be understood that the perfectly established is taken as the basis of emptiness, and it is said to be empty by the other two natures? In this regard, in any school of Yogacara or Madhyamaka, when establishing the perfectly established absence of self of phenomena, what should be taken as the basis of emptiness depends on what is grasped as the self of phenomena by the clinging to the self of phenomena, for example, if one grasps a rope as a snake and wants to eliminate the suffering of fear, then the rope must be taken as the basis of emptiness and it must be shown that the rope is empty of the snake. The rope being empty of the snake is taken as the basis of emptiness.

It is not valid to say that I am empty from the perspective that the rope and the snake are different things. The clinging to a self of phenomena is also clinging to things like the partless atoms of directions and the apprehended object accumulated from them, the momentary consciousness without parts of past and future times, and the continuous consciousness that continues it. These are only imputed by philosophical schools that have transformed their minds, and are only present in those who assert philosophical tenets, not in other sentient beings. Therefore, even if emptiness is taught as the absence of just that, it does not harm the innate clinging to a self that has been present since beginningless time. Therefore, it must be shown that the basis on which the innate clinging to a self grasps, is empty of a self in accordance with how it is grasped. And it should be understood that refuting what is imputed by philosophical tenets is also a part of refuting that. If this is done, then self-satisfied sentient beings cling to just this dependent other, the objects of seeing and hearing, etc., the external and internal objects such as the eye and form, etc., as a self. Therefore, it is necessary to take that itself as the basis of emptiness and establish emptiness. It is not a mistake to think that the perfectly established and the other-powered nature are two different things. Therefore, how can one establish selflessness by saying that the perfectly established and the other-powered nature are empty because they are two different things? Some people do not cling to the existence of a self of phenomena as they cling to the existence of fire, clinging to the existence of something else. Rather, when one's own mind appears as separate and distant from the external object and the internal object-possessor, it clings to it as established in the way it appears. Therefore, its antidote is to show that the appearance of object and object-possessor is not established as a separate substance of grasper and grasped, but it is not showing that the grasper and grasped are not present in it as something else. Therefore, the commentary on the Middle Beyond says that it is not like a monastery being empty of monks, but like a rope being empty of a snake. The way in which phenomena are empty of a self is also like that. Therefore, one should not act like the world says, "A ghost harms in the east gate, so send a ransom to the west gate." Rather, one should meditate on such emptiness, where the basis on which one clings to a self, the dependent other, is empty of the imputed self in accordance with how it is grasped, and the perfectly established is emptiness. If one meditates on emptiness in a way that is different from that method, then
