The answer is made on the basis of commitment. In the commentary on the Thirty Verses, it is also said: Or some think that the knowable, like the knower, is also a substance; others think that the knower, like the knowable, is also conventional truth, not ultimate truth. In order to refute this extreme assertion, this treatise was composed. This teacher has said so. Therefore, saying "other-powered is not utterly non-existent" is not, as previously quoted from the Bodhisattva-bhumi, to negate that in ultimate truth, a real thing is utterly non-existent, or that in all of all, it is non-existent, but it is not to negate the belief that the knowable is impossible. The four lines are to dispel the doubt that if dualistic conceptualization constantly exists in emptiness, why is it not perceived? Because the conceptualization of dualistic appearance is present in that emptiness, it is obscured by it. All dharmas being entirely empty, non-empty, existent, and non-existent would become extremes, not the Middle Way, so in order to negate these, the second verse was spoken: It is not empty by conceptualization and emptiness, nor is it non-empty by the two, grasper and grasped; all are the compounded of conceptualization and the uncompounded of emptiness. The explanation is that, as stated in the Mother Sutra and others, it has been clarified that all of this is neither entirely empty nor non-empty, and it should be in accordance with this, as Vasubandhu said, to explain non-emptiness as the perfectly established and non-non-emptiness as the other two, self-nature, is meaningless. Existence is conceptualization, non-existence is the two, and the two, conceptualization and emptiness, exist mutually; it should be as the teacher and disciple Vasubandhu said. If it is said that the two exist as one or different, so one is empty, to explain these in reverse, do not explain according to the views of those people. In the Chapter of Light Protection, it is said that existence and non-existence are each explained as extremes, and then the middle of the two is explained as the Middle Way of individually contemplating dharmas, and that is the Middle Way. For this meaning, Blo-brtan (Sthiramati) made an explanation. Therefore, this mode of Mind-Only is explained as the meaning of the Middle Way. According to the views of other Madhyamikas, although they consider the latter to be superior to the former, this mode considers the two to have the same meaning.

That's how it was done. Thus, the explanations of the Eight Thousand Verses by Vasubandhu and Sthiramati have been mentioned on various occasions. Dharmakirti also said in the Pramāṇavārttika, "Because if one does not exist, both will disappear. Therefore, whatever the two thousand verses are, that is also it, and it is also that." Thus, he proclaimed emptiness, which is empty of other entities of the grasper and the grasped, as the suchness of other-dependence. The meaning of the sutras that say that all phenomena are without self-nature is also explained in that same way: "Things exist separately, that is dependent on the separate. That is actually false, and those separate things will also perish. From the aspects of the grasper and the grasped, there is no other characteristic. Therefore, because the characteristic is empty, it is well explained as without self-nature." It means that distinguishing things into separate entities such as birth is not only by self-awareness, but by the consciousness that appears as dualistic. The appearance of duality is also false, so what is established by it is also false. And in the aspect of the grasper and the grasped, there is no characteristic of another meaning, and the characteristic of the appearance of duality does not exist as it appears, so it is said to be without self-nature. Also, the Pramāṇavārttika says, "The aggregates and other distinctions, which make all characteristics, that which has distinctions is also not it, and it is also separated from those characteristics." It means that the aggregates of form, etc., are what is to be expressed, and what can become form, etc., are the expressers, all of which are distinguished by action. Even if the basis of those exists in things, but from the point of view of action, it is not established as reality, considering this, it is also said that the characteristic is empty, which is also common with the Hearer school. The Pramāṇavārttika says: "If everything is powerless, seeds, etc., for sprouts, etc., if the ability is seen, if it is promised that it is conventional, then how will it be so?" What is said is consistent with the points previously stated in the Compendium on Valid Cognition. The detailed explanations of these, I have not written because of fear of prolixity. Second, there are two parts: identifying the object of refutation and the imputation, and how to refute it. The first is: the object of refutation by reasoning in this system is
