One will not fall into evil destinies, will not crave other teachings, and will not be negligent in the foundation of learning. The latter is the opposite of this, as stated in the Madhyāntavibhāga-bhāṣya. In this way, what is absent in what is empty of it, and what remains is present. Seeing it in this way is entering into emptiness without perversion. Objects such as form are empty of the nature imputed to them by words, which is the meaning of the previous statement. What remains is only the object of imputation and the imputation itself, as stated in the Madhyāntavibhāga-bhāṣya. What is empty is the parikalpita, the basis of what is empty is the paratantra, and the emptiness of the former emptying the latter is the pariniṣpanna. The meaning of their presence or absence is as previously explained. Thus, abandoning the extreme of superimposition is abandoning the extreme of existence, and abandoning denial is abandoning the extreme of non-existence, which is also a clear distinction of non-duality. Such emptiness is taught as the ultimate of ultimate reality. As stated in the Madhyāntavibhāga-bhāṣya, whatever is the former object and the non-existence of the object, the object encompassed by the characteristics of the Dharma of liberation from the existence and non-existence of these two is non-dual. Whatever is non-dual is called the Middle Way, the unsurpassed meaning of abandoning the two extremes. Secondly, there are two parts: On one hand, first establishing the position and asking and answering its meaning; on the other hand, refuting the answered position. First, from the Abhidharmasamuccaya: Some Mahāyāna practitioners, holding onto their own faults, say, "In conventional truth, everything exists, and in ultimate truth, everything does not exist." As such, the Madhyamikas who say that all dharmas do not exist in ultimate truth but exist in name are stating the difference between the existence and non-existence of dharmas. Then, one should say to them, "Revered one, what is ultimate truth, and what is conventional truth?" When asked in this way, if they say, "Whatever is the emptiness of the nature of all dharmas is ultimate truth, and whatever is the imputation of nature to those dharmas that are empty of nature is conventional truth." Why is that? It is because it is conventionally made, imputed, expressed, and named on what is non-existent.

If the answer is "it is for doing," then this is what was done previously, asking what the two truths are and then answering it. Here, asking what is ultimate is asking for the characteristics of the ultimate truth, not asking where it does not exist in the ultimate, not asking where it does not exist in the ultimate. Otherwise, it would not be appropriate to say that the absence of self-nature of all phenomena is ultimate, because the Madhyamikas believe that the selflessness of phenomena exists in the ultimate, therefore they do not consider it to exist in the ultimate. Asking what is conventional is also asking what is the conventional truth in whose face truth is established, not asking what is the conventional term for the place of existence that exists in name. Otherwise, it would not be appropriate to say that grasping at selflessness as self is conventional, because it is a real grasp, and the Madhyamikas believe that its object of attachment does not exist even in name, because the self that is negated by the "absence" in selflessness must refer to the true self. Second, there are two parts: showing the contradiction with other schools, and avoiding the contradiction with one's own school. First, to refute the recognition of the conventional, it is said in the Compendium: "To this, it should be said, do you think that the object of self-nature arises from the cause of manifestation and convention, or is it merely manifestation and convention? If it arises from the cause of manifestation and convention, then it is not right to say that it does not exist because it arises from the cause of manifestation and convention. If it is merely manifestation and convention, then it is not right to say manifestation and convention without a basis." Its meaning is that the conventional, which grasps at self-nature in what is ultimately without self-nature, will also become an inner manifestation, and at that time, is it produced by the cause of its own similar previous life? Or is it merely imputed by the conceptualization of convention and manifestation? If it is the former, then it is not reasonable to say that it does not exist because it is produced by a cause, which means that it does not exist in the ultimate, here it is the ultimate.

Because it is the time of arguing about whether it exists or not, and the other party also admits that it does not exist in the ultimate sense, but does not say that it does not exist at all. According to the second view, it cannot be merely imputed by conceptual thought, because there is no basis for imputation. If conventional truth and expression are merely imputed by conceptual thought, then everything else will become the same. To prevent the identification of the ultimate truth, it is said in the same text: 'Why, venerable one, do you say that what is perceived does not exist?' If asked in this way, and the answer is: 'Because it is a reversed object,' then it should be said: 'Do you think that reversal exists or does not exist?' If you think it exists, then it cannot be said that the selflessness of all dharmas is the ultimate truth. If you think it does not exist, then it cannot be said that because it is a reversed object, what is perceived is selfless.' The meaning of this is, how can it be reasonable to say that these dharmas, while clearly clinging to their own characteristics that are established by their own characteristics, do not exist? Because for it, the valid cognition that clings in this way will harm it. If the mind that clings in this way does not harm it, because the mind itself is a deluded object. If you say so, then, if delusion exists by its own characteristics, then it cannot ultimately establish selflessness, and if it does not exist, then because of delusion, what is perceived does not exist either.' That is unreasonable. Here, too, it is necessary to examine whether it exists or not in the ultimate sense, but the meaning is the same, and the previous examination is easier to understand, so it is explained in that way. In this way, here, without pointing out the fault that the completely imputed and the completely established two do not exist in the ultimate sense, but exist in name, it is by examining whether the conventional consciousness and the deluded consciousness exist or not in the ultimate sense that the fault is pointed out. This is because it prevents the dependent arising from not existing in the ultimate sense, but existing in the conventional sense. Because this itself is the characteristic of the completely established, and is the imputator and the basis of imputation of the completely imputed, therefore, the wise mainly argue about whether this itself exists or not in the ultimate sense. Furthermore, in the Compendium, it says: 'For the dependent nature and the completely established, clinging to what appears as the completely imputed nature, that is'
