On the manner of studying the Mahāyāna path. The first part has three points: First, cultivate the desire to study the Bodhisattva precepts; second, after cultivating, take the vows of the Bodhisattva; third, after taking them, how to study. This has three points: What is the basis for study; how the things to be studied are gathered there; and how the order of study is. The second part has two points: The determination of the actual number of meanings; and the incidental explanation of the determination of order. The first part has six points: The determination of number in view of higher rebirth; the determination of number in view of accomplishing the two benefits; the determination of number in view of completely accomplishing all deeds for the benefit of others; the determination of number in view of gathering all Mahāyāna; the determination of number in view of mastering all aspects of the path or means; the determination of number in view of the three trainings. The incidental explanation of the determination of order has three points: The order of birth; the order of inferior and superior; the order of coarse and subtle. The third part, on the order of how to study, is divided into two parts: the manner of studying common practices; and the manner of especially studying the last two pāramitās. The first part has two points: The pāramitās that ripen one's own Buddha-dharma; and the four ways of gathering that ripen the minds of others. The first part has six points: The manner of studying generosity, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom. The first part has four points: The nature of generosity; the means of entering into generating it; the divisions of generosity; and the summary of their meanings. The third part, the divisions of generosity, has three points: How to act with all supports; the divisions in view of each support; and the divisions of the nature of generosity itself. The first two are to make it possess six perfections, and to make it possess six pāramitās. The first part has six points: Superior support; superior object; superior purpose; superior skillful means; superior dedication; superior purity. The third part, the divisions of the nature of generosity itself, has three points: The generosity of Dharma; the generosity of fearlessness; the generosity of material things. This has two points: The generosity of actually giving material things; and the generosity of mere intention. The first part has three points: The way of giving material things; what to do if one cannot give; showing the antidote to the obstacles of generosity. The first part has four points: The field to whom to give; the intention with which to give; the action of how to give; the object of what to give.

Two of the three. What kind of thoughts should one possess? What kind of thoughts should one abandon? Here are seven: not having the thought of clinging to wrong views, not having the thought of arrogance, not having the thought of dependence, not having the thought of dejection, not having the thought of turning one's back, not having the thought of looking for a return, not having the thought of looking for karmic results. How to give through actions has two aspects: what kind of actions do not constitute giving, and what kind of actions do constitute giving? The first has two aspects: briefly stating the objects of giving and not giving, and explaining them in detail. Here there are two: explaining in detail the giving and not giving of inner objects, and the giving and not giving of outer objects. The first has three aspects: not permissible to give from the aspect of time, not permissible to give from the aspect of need, not permissible to give from the aspect of the beggar. Explaining in detail the giving and not giving of outer objects has two aspects: the way of not giving outer objects, and the way of giving. The first has five: not permissible to give from the aspect of time, not permissible to give from the aspect of place, not permissible to give from the aspect of the basis, not permissible to give from the aspect of the object, not permissible to give from the aspect of need. Showing the antidotes to the obstacles of giving has four: unfamiliarity, decline, attachment, not seeing the result. Second, the perfection of discipline has five: the nature of discipline, the method of entering into cultivating it, the classification of discipline, how to act when accomplishing them, and summarizing their meaning. The classification of discipline has three: the discipline of vows, the discipline of gathering virtuous dharmas, and the discipline of benefiting sentient beings. The perfection of patience has five: the nature of patience, the method of entering into cultivating it, the classification of patience, how to act when accomplishing them, and summarizing their meaning. The classification of patience has three: not minding the harm-doer, accepting suffering, and having patience of firm conviction in the Dharma. The first has two: refuting impatience towards the harm-doer causing harm, and refuting displeasure at the prosperity of the harm-doer and delight at their decline. The first has two: refuting impatience towards creating obstacles to happiness and creating intervals of suffering, and towards obstacles to respect etc. and the three of contempt etc.
