This shows that only by putting complete conceptualization first can one enter the realm of signlessness. It has been made very clear that it is impossible to enter non-conceptualization by merely abandoning mental activity completely and not examining the nature of things with wisdom. As it is said in the Jewel Cloud Sutra, if one does not properly investigate beforehand and does not obtain the view of suchness, then it is impossible to enter the meaning of suchness without conceptualization. In the Final Stages of Meditation, the words "inconceivable" and "beyond thought" etc. are to prevent the idea of presuming to realize the profound meaning by merely hearing and thinking about it, therefore, these are to show that these are to be realized by each noble being individually, and are not conceivable by others, etc. In addition, it is also said to prevent grasping the profound meaning as real and not properly attending to it. It is not to prevent examining properly with individual discriminating wisdom. If one prevents proper examination, it contradicts many reasonings and scriptures. Even if it is the nature of conceptualization, because it is the nature of proper attention, non-conceptual wisdom will arise, therefore, since one desires that wisdom, one should rely on it. These words mean that the Chinese monks did not rely on teachings and reasoning to determine the view of suchness, but said that by not attending to anything and abiding in equanimity, one could realize suchness. It is very important to understand the ways to prevent such statements. These methods of meditation also appear in the earlier instructions of the Stages of the Path. As it says in Potowa's Be'u Bum: Some people, when hearing and thinking, use reason to determine selflessness, but when meditating, they say they only meditate on non-conceptualization. If that is the case, it is an unrelated emptiness, because it is meditated separately, so it will not become an antidote. Therefore, even when meditating, one should individually examine one and many separations, dependent arising, etc., based on habit, and slightly abide in a state of non-conceptualization. If one meditates in that way, afflictions will become an antidote. Some people want to follow Lhaji, and want to practice the Paramitas, this is the method of practicing wisdom. This is also through habituating to the selflessness of persons, and then in that way.
