Having acted, one should protect. If one commits a root downfall, although it can be restored, the arising of the qualities of the path in the continuum is very slow. Therefore, one should strive not to be stained by them. One should strive not to be stained by gross downfalls, and even if one is stained by a hundred, one should practice the means of restoring them. These are the basis for meditating on the path, and without them, one will become like a dilapidated house with crumbling foundations. In the Root Tantra of Manjushri, it is said: "The All-Powerful One has not said that mantras will be accomplished by those with broken morality." Thus, it is said that there is no superior, intermediate, or inferior accomplishment. Also, in the Anuttarayoga Tantra, it is said that even if one practices without keeping vows, with inferior empowerment, and without understanding its meaning, nothing will be accomplished. Therefore, those who speak of meditating on the path without keeping vows and commitments are completely straying from the way of mantra. In this way, by keeping vows and commitments, one should meditate on the path of mantra. According to the lower three tantras, one should gradually train in the two yogas of sign and no-sign. According to the higher tantras, one should gradually train in the two stages of yoga. These are just a brief introduction to the path of mantra through names. For a detailed explanation, one should learn from the stages of the path of mantra. If one trains in this way, one will be training in the complete body of the path that encompasses all the essential points of sutra and tantra. Therefore, one will make good use of one's leisure and be able to spread the precious teachings of the Buddhas in one's own and others' minds. The Victorious Ones have spoken of the path of sutra and tantra in two ways. In the sutra teachings, with fearless courage, the excellent treatises are blessed to easily appear as instructions. The common Mahayana path explained in the tantras is completely clarified, and the tantras are the best for training. In particular, the common samadhi that arises in the context of outsiders and insiders, the Greater and Lesser Vehicles, the two types of Mahayana, and the upper and lower tantras, is very clearly explained according to the treatises of many scholars. Because it is well-spoken, yogis will diligently practice it, and the wrong paths of the path will be well understood. This summary of the stages of the Bodhi Path is again for those who desire liberation.
