Moreover, physical and mental pliancy arise quickly, and the five hindrances such as desire for sensual pleasures and sleep mostly do not arise, and even when rising from meditative equipoise, one possesses some physical and mental pliancy, as stated in the Śrāvakabhūmi. Having obtained the mental application that possesses those signs, it becomes easy to purify the path of calm abiding, and at the end of maintaining calm abiding with one-pointedness of mind, because one can quickly induce physical and mental pliancy, pliancy will increase, and as much as pliancy increases, calm abiding also increases, so it is said in the Śrāvakabhūmi that they increase each other. In short, when the mind becomes workable, the winds also become workable, and at that time, special physical pliancy arises, and when that arises, special samādhi arises, and it also accomplishes special workability of the winds, thus inducing physical and mental pliancy. Furthermore, the Śrāvakabhūmi says, "In order not to turn towards all signs, and in order to be without distraction, from the beginning, by focusing closely, one makes it without memory and without mental application." This means that when initially placing the mind in one-pointedness, one does not apply any other memory or mental application. If one becomes accustomed to this, then the Śrāvakabhūmi says, "In any case, you should closely focus on one-pointedness itself, and gradually focus on the calm abiding of the inner mind, and in this way, fix the mind so that all the mind's continuum and the mind's duration become without signs, without conceptualization, and close to peace. If you obtain such a calm abiding mind, then, if due to the faults of forgetfulness and lack of familiarity, signs and conceptualizations and afflictions that are close by appear, indicate, and become objects, then for all these occurrences, just as with the faults seen before, one should be without memory and without mental application, and in this way, by being without memory and without mental application, one destroys and eliminates the object, and one will be close to abiding in a state without appearance. Noble son, because the object is subtle and difficult to understand, in order for you to understand it, you must strongly generate intention and effort." Thus, the way of generating samādhi is explained. To that,

The part starting with "ྱིས་ཤིག་ཅེས་པ་ཡན་གྱིས་ནི།" explains how the three, such as the absence of signs, arise in sequence by practicing as before. The part starting with "དེ་ནས་མེད་པར་བྱ་སྟེ་ཞེས་པ་ཡན་གྱིས་ནི།" explains that even if calm abiding is achieved, if signs and so on appear in the mind due to not having great familiarity with it, one should remember the faults of being controlled by those minds, and without following them, one should remain without thinking of anything. The part starting with "དེ་ནས་འགྱུར་རོ་ཞེས་པ་ཡན་གྱིས་ནི།" explains that by becoming accustomed in this way, whichever of the three, such as signs, arises, it naturally subsides without relying on deliberate focus due to the force of habit of not thinking about anything. The three remain in a state of non-appearance and are not stolen by them. The remaining part shows that calm abiding is subtle and its explanation is difficult to understand. Here, signs refer to the ten signs of the five objects such as form, the three poisons, and male and female. The way they disappear is: first, various signs of objects such as form appear, and as soon as they appear, they naturally subside and purify themselves. Finally, when one abides in equanimity, the signs of form, sound, etc., do not appear, but only the appearance of a clear and comfortable mind appears. Then, the way in which non-conceptual thought disappears is: as before, by abiding without mindfulness and attention, whatever conceptual thoughts arise cannot continue for long, just like bubbles arising from water, but naturally subside. Then, by practicing as before, the experience and comfortable feeling that appear also naturally subside and purify themselves without being deliberately blocked, just like a shell falling off as soon as it appears, and cannot bear to be focused on. The comfort and experience become subtle. At that time, when abiding in equanimity, no appearance of one's own body, etc., appears, and the mind experiences something like being inseparable from the sky. When one rises from that, one experiences something like the body suddenly appearing. Afterwards, even when conceptual thoughts of afflictions such as hatred arise, they are completely different from before, weak in strength, and unable to continue for long. These times are the stage of "ཉེ་བར་ཞི་བར་འགྱུར་བ་ཞེས་པའི་སྐབས་ཡིན་ཏེ།" because the clarity is so great that one feels that one can even count the fine dust of the pillars and walls of the house, and the place of
