So, this is included in the desire realm. Although there is such a state of one-pointedness of mind, it is not called a state of Samadhi because it is not a state of equanimity. This is because it has not been accomplished through freedom from regret, supreme joy, and pliancy, as explained in the actual basis of the ground. Thus, if pliancy is not attained, even if mindfulness is not continuously cultivated, the mind will naturally become non-distracted, and this Samadhi seems to be able to blend with all activities of walking, standing, sitting, and lying down. This is called one-pointedness of mind in the desire realm, but it is not true Shamatha. Secondly, how is pliancy attained? And how does one enter Shamatha after attaining it? In response, the Compendium of Determinations states: What is pliancy? It is the ability of body and mind to sever the continuity of the afflictive states of body and mind, and it has the function of eliminating all obscurations. That is to say, the afflictive states of body and mind refer to the inability of body and mind to be used for virtuous deeds as one wishes. And its antidote, the pliancy of body and mind, is that because it is free from the two afflictive states of body and mind, body and mind become very capable when used for virtuous deeds. That is, it obstructs the joy of abandoning afflictions, and the afflictive state of the body that belongs to the side of afflictions, when striving to abandon afflictions, the body becomes heavy and so on, and it is separated from this state, and it becomes light and buoyant, which is the pliancy of the body. Similarly, it obstructs the joy of abandoning afflictions, and the afflictive state of mind that belongs to the side of afflictions, when striving to abandon afflictions, the mind cannot joyfully focus on the object of virtue, and it is separated from this state, and the mind focuses on the object without hindrance, which is the pliancy of the mind. In this regard, Master Lodro Ten also said: The pliancy of the body is the lightness and buoyancy that arises from the body's own activities. The pliancy of the mind is the calmness and lightness of the mind that arises when entering into correct attention, which is another Dharma that arises from the mind. If one possesses it, one can focus on the object without hindrance, therefore it is called the pliancy of the mind.
