Therefore, all actions of dependent arising, such as seeing, observing, and listening, are reasonable. Since all actions are reasonable, it is not annihilationist emptiness. Since phenomena are empty in this way from the very beginning, it is merely recognizing that it is empty, so it is not an artificially constructed emptiness either. Since all knowable things are regarded in this way, it is not a partial emptiness either. Therefore, practicing it can also become an antidote to all manifestations of clinging to reality. The profound meaning is not something that any mind cannot touch, but it can be touched by settling on the correct view and by meditating on the correct meaning. Therefore, it is not an emptiness that cannot be practiced during the path and has nothing to be known or realized. So, does the fact that images and so on are determined to be empty by appearing in something mean that one realizes that they have no nature? If ordinary beings directly realize that they have no nature, then they would become noble beings. If not, how can these things serve as examples of having no nature? In this regard, the Four Hundred says: "Whoever sees one thing, Sees all things. Whoever's emptiness is one, Is the emptiness of all." This means that the one who sees or realizes the emptiness of one thing can also realize the emptiness of other things. However, by realizing that the image of a face is empty of the face, it does not harm the object of clinging to reality that grasps the image as being established by its own nature. And since its object is not refuted, one does not realize the emptiness of the image being empty of being established by its own nature. Therefore, that mind does not realize the reality of the image. In this way, even if one realizes that an illusion is empty of horses and cows, and that the appearances of dreams are empty of where they appear, one does not attain the Madhyamaka view of realizing them as illusions and dreams. However, the reason why these are taken as examples is that it is easier to realize that these things have no nature than other phenomena such as forms and sounds. These things are empty of the nature of being established by their own essence because if the object were truly established, it should not appear to the mind in a way that is different from its own state. Therefore, it is established by pointing out the contradiction between these two.

First, one must enable people to realize that these examples, which are known as false in the world, are originally without inherent existence. Then, one must cultivate the realization that other phenomena, which are not known as false in the world, are also without inherent existence. These two require a sequence of before and after. Therefore, it is not intended that when one realizes the emptiness of one phenomenon, one directly realizes the emptiness of all other phenomena. Rather, it is when the mind turns to whether other phenomena are truly existent or not that one can realize it. In this way, one can understand that realizing the emptiness of what appears as men, women, etc. in a dream, and what is said in the Ornament for Clear Realization, "Even in a dream, all phenomena, view them as like a dream, etc.," both have the same meaning. Similarly, realizing the emptiness of what appears as vases, cloths, etc. in the appearances of experience from meditating on samadhi, by means of where they appear, and realizing these as illusions and dreams that are not established by their own nature, both have the same meaning. Therefore, one must carefully investigate and determine the uncommon ways in which illusions appear, as it is said in definitive scriptures and treatises that one should realize them as like illusions and dreams. In this way, it is like a child who does not understand the signs taking the reflection in a mirror to be a face, etc., a spectator who does not know about illusions taking the appearance of illusions to be horses, oxen, etc., and someone who does not know that they are dreaming taking the mountains, houses, homes, etc. that appear in the dream to be real. Similarly, it is like an old person who understands the signs, someone who conjures illusions, and someone who knows that they are dreaming knowing that those appearances are not true. But neither of these two has found the view of suchness. The second case is that without fully grasping the extent of the object to be refuted as previously explained, when one analyzes phenomena with reasoning and shatters them, the thought that the phenomenon does not exist arises first. Then, one also sees the analyzer in the same way, and because there is no one who can ascertain its non-existence, one cannot ascertain the existence or non-existence of anything, resulting in appearances becoming vague and unclear. The arising of such appearances is also due to not distinguishing between inherent existence and non-existence, and the degree of existence and non-existence. Therefore, such emptiness is also destroying dependent origination.
