If one thinks, what fault is there if (I and the aggregates) are considered different? The Root Wisdom says: If (I) am other than the aggregates, then there is no nature of the aggregates. Thus, the fault is spoken of. Regarding this, if I am different from the aggregates in terms of inherent existence, then the nature of the aggregates as conditioned phenomena will not possess the characteristics of arising, ceasing, and abiding. For example, a horse and a cow are different in terms of things, so they do not possess the nature of a cow. If someone thinks like that, then it should not be suitable as the basis and object of the innate clinging that establishes the term 'I', because it is unconditioned. For example, a flower in the sky or nirvana. Furthermore, if the nature of the aggregates, etc., is different from the nature of form, etc., then it must be apprehended as such, just as apprehending form and mind as different. Since there is no such apprehension, there is no other self. The Root Wisdom says: The self is not reasonable other than from the aggregates. If (I) am other, there is no grasping; if there is a grasper, there is no graspable. And also the Entering the Middle Way says: Therefore, there is no self other than the aggregates, because apart from the aggregates, grasping it is not established. With such reasoning, one should repeatedly train to gain a firm conviction of seeing the refutation of the self being inherently different from the aggregates. If a pure conviction of refutation is not obtained on these two sides of one and different, then even if one determines that a person is without inherent existence, it will only be a verbal commitment, and therefore one will not obtain a pure view. Second, when searching with reason whether the self has inherent existence, it is not found in either one or many, so when the self's inherent existence is negated, the reason that analyzes that very nature will not find the self's possession to be inherently established, just as if the son of a barren woman is not seen, his possessions such as eyes will not be seen. The Root Wisdom also says: If the self is not existent, how can the self's be existent? And also the Entering the Middle Way says: Since there is no agent, there is no action; therefore, the self's is not existent without a self. Therefore, by seeing the emptiness of the self and the self's, that yogi will be liberated. Like that, the idea of clinging to the 'I' of one's own continuum, or the I, or the self, or the person, its own nature.

Through the reasoning that establishes non-establishment, all sentient beings from hell to Buddhahood and all their possessions, whether they are contaminated or uncontaminated aggregates that serve as a basis, whether they are the same or different in essence, should realize all the true meanings of the selflessness of persons, which are devoid of inherent existence. Furthermore, one should also understand how all their possessions are established as being without inherent existence. The second of the three, explaining the meaning of being like an illusion, is how it appears like an illusion depending on what method. The first has two parts: the undeluded truth of how it appears like an illusion, and the explanation of how it appears similar to an illusion. The first is: As it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "Like a mirage, a city of gandharvas, like an illusion, like a dream, meditating on signs that are empty in nature, know all dharmas in that way." Also, as it is said in the Mother of the Buddhas Sutra: "All dharmas from form to omniscience are said to be like illusions and dreams." The meaning of being like an illusion as it is said is twofold: like saying that ultimate truth is like an illusion, it is established as merely existing but negates truth; and the appearance that appears in emptiness is like an illusion. This is the latter. Here, it is necessary to have two emptinesses because there is an appearance there and a meaning like an appearance. However, like a rabbit's horn and a barren woman's child, there is nothing at all that appears, and even if it appears, it does not appear with the meaning of appearance. If emptiness does not appear, then the meaning of illusion does not appear in the mind. Therefore, the way to know other dharmas in the same way as the example of illusion is: For example, the illusion created by a magician is originally empty of horses and cattle, but it appears as horses and cattle, which cannot be denied; similarly, all dharmas such as sentient beings are originally empty of inherent existence established by their own nature on the object, but it appears as established there, which should be known. Thus, appearing as gods and humans is a sentient being, and the meaning of appearing as form and sound is a dharma, so sentient beings and all dharmas, although there is not even a particle of inherent existence established by their own characteristics, there are accumulators of karma, etc.
