The non-rational conceptualizations that cling to characteristics such as good and bad will cease. When that ceases, other afflictions such as attachment, which have the view of the perishable as their root, will also cease. When that ceases, the actions that are instigated by it will cease. When that ceases, the involuntary birth in samsara, which is thrown by karma, will cease, and thus a firm conviction of attaining liberation will arise. Then, thoroughly seek the view of suchness. The Root Wisdom says: "Liberation is attained by the exhaustion of karma and afflictions. Karma and afflictions arise from conceptualization. That arises from elaboration, and elaboration ceases through emptiness." Therefore, after understanding the order of the cessation and entry into samsara, it is necessary to cherish the realization of the meaning of suchness. If the object is not clearly distinguished, blind entry will not succeed. There are three aspects to the second part: the order of generating the two views of selflessness; actually generating the two views in order; and distinguishing between conventional truth and ultimate truth. The first point is: In the order of arising of the two self-grasps, the self-grasp of phenomena generates the self-grasp of persons. However, when entering the suchness of selflessness, one must first generate the view of the selflessness of persons, and then generate the view of realizing the selflessness of phenomena. As it is said in the Ratnavali: "A person is not earth, not water, not fire, not wind, not space, not consciousness, not everything, what person is there other than that? A person is composed of six elements, therefore it is not truly existent, likewise each element is not truly existent because it is an aggregate." Just as it is said that first the selflessness of persons, and then the elements such as earth, which are the basis of imputation, are without inherent existence. It is also said in the Prasannapada and Buddhapalita that when entering suchness, one must first enter through the selflessness of persons. Shantideva also said the same. The reason for doing so is that although there is no difference in subtlety or grossness in the selflessness that needs to be ascertained on the basis of persons and phenomena, it is easier to ascertain on persons and difficult to ascertain on phenomena due to the key of the basis of distinction. For example, the selflessness of phenomena is difficult to ascertain on the eyes, ears, etc., and easy to ascertain on images, etc.
