Craving for happiness arises, and since my happiness is not independent of my possessions and is not autonomous, there is craving for my possessions. This obscures its faults and allows one to see its virtues. Then, my possessions are taken as the means of achieving my happiness. The afflictions that arise in this way cause actions to be performed, and actions also connect the continuum in samsara. As it is said in the Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness: "Action is caused by afflictions, actions are the nature of afflictions and actions, the body is caused by actions, all three are empty of inherent existence." In this way, one should repeatedly train to gain certainty about the order of wandering in samsara. The third part has two points: the reason why one must seek the view of realizing selflessness if one wants to abandon ignorance; and the way to generate the view of realizing selflessness. The first point is: The two kinds of ignorance, self-grasping, that were previously explained, must be desired to be abandoned and exhausted, it is indeed necessary and desired. However, even if one desires in this way, if one does not strive to understand how self-grasping becomes the root of samsara, and even if one sees its aspects, one does not make an effort to generate a pure view of selflessness in one's own mind by thoroughly refuting the object grasped by self-grasping with definitive teachings and reasoning, then one is of very dull faculties, because it is like abandoning the life force of the path to liberation and omniscience without any concern. Therefore, glorious Dharmakirti said: "If this object is not refuted, then it is not possible to abandon it. Abandoning desire and hatred, etc., which are associated with qualities and faults, is not because they are not seen in the object, but because of external appearances." Just as when taking out a thorn stuck on the outside, one does not rely on refuting the object it grasps, but takes it out from the root with a needle. When abandoning what is to be abandoned on the inner mind, it is not done that way. However, it is said that one must abandon it after seeing that the meaning of how self-grasping, etc., grasps the object does not exist. Glorious Chandrakirti also said that when one sees that all faults such as afflictions like attachment and suffering like birth and aging arise from self-grasping, then the desire to prevent and abandon it arises. At that time, the object fabricated by self-grasping, the self of the person,
