It is said, "Alas, it will eventually become someone else's property." This was said about the selflessness of persons, but it is also the same for the selflessness of phenomena. When selflessness is realized, the imputed self is abandoned. This is not desired as a basis for ignorance. Therefore, it is wonderful to say that knowing selflessness can also completely eradicate ignorance. This is how it is connected. If, in the Ratnavali, it says, "As long as there is clinging to the aggregates, there is clinging to self. If there is clinging to self, there is karma. From karma, there is birth." Thus, the clinging to the aggregates as real, the clinging to the self of phenomena, is said to be the root of samsara. And in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra, it says, "All faults and afflictions arise from the view of the transitory collection." Thus, the view of the transitory collection is said to be the root of samsara, these two contradict each other. Because the roots of samsara are inconsistent, these two are unreasonable. If you say that, there is no fault. Because this school distinguishes the two self-grasps by their objects. But there is no difference in the way of grasping, because both grasp in the manner of being established by their own nature. The contradiction of the two roots of samsara is when two ways of grasping the object that are inconsistent are established as the root of samsara. Therefore, when it is said that the grasping of the self of phenomena is the cause of the view of the transitory collection, it is saying that the two within ignorance are cause and effect. When it is said that both of these are the root of afflictions,

Entering with each of their respective differences, the other four senses such as the eyes rely on the body's senses to exist. Just as they cannot exist independently of objects, all other afflictions also enter relying on innate ignorance, so it is said that delusion is the main one. Just as the body relies on the body's senses, delusion pervades all. In the commentary on the Hundred Verses, it says: "Desire and so on also only on the nature of things that are universally imputed by delusion, attach differences such as loveliness and unloveliness. Therefore, they enter without being different from delusion, and also rely on delusion, because delusion is the main one." Therefore, when delusion grasps that phenomena are established by their own nature, if the object grasped is in accordance with one's own mind, then attachment arises with that as the object; if it appears to be not in accordance with one's own mind, then anger arises towards it; if the object does not appear to be in accordance with or not in accordance with one's mind, but is in a state of ordinary neutrality, then with that as the object, although the other two do not arise, a later affliction of the same kind as delusion arises. The Sixty Stanza Reasoning says: "For those who have a place and are connected with mind, why do great poisons of affliction not arise? When one is in an ordinary state, one is also seized by the snake of affliction." Its commentary explains as before. The arising of the view of the perishable from grasping the aggregates as true also seems to be the intent of the Precious Garland. The manner in which the remaining afflictions arise should be understood by inferring from what is explained in the section on the middling person. Also, the Commentary on Valid Cognition says: "Whoever sees a self, constantly clings to 'I,' from clinging comes craving for pleasure, from craving one obscures faults, seeing qualities one craves completely, taking 'mine' as proof of that. Therefore, manifest attachment to self, as long as that exists, one revolves in samsara." It should also be understood as such. Although the way of establishing this and the previously explained grasping at self are different, it can be understood through the sequence of how afflictions arise. That is, first, when the object of 'I' is grasped as being established by my own nature, attachment to self arises. From that, one's own
