The method of eliminating attachment is not written because it is feared to be too cumbersome. Secondly, there are four ways to learn Vipassanā: relying on the conditions for Vipassanā, the detailed classification of Vipassanā, the method of practicing Vipassanā, and the standard for achieving Vipassanā through practice. The first is divided into two: generally speaking, the method of relying on the conditions for Vipassanā; in particular, the method of establishing views. The first is: relying on a noble person, seeking to hear the Dharma from him, and properly attending to it. These are the three conditions for Vipassanā mentioned in the "Middle Stages of Practice". That is to say, relying on a wise person who is proficient in the essence of the scriptures without reversing them, listening to the immaculate treatises, and generating a view that realizes the truth through the wisdom of hearing and thinking is an indispensable condition for the cause of Vipassanā. Because if there is no view that has a definite conclusion on the meaning of reality, it is impossible to generate the realization of Vipassanā that realizes reality. Such a view should not rely on provisional meaning, but should seek to rely on definitive meaning. Therefore, one must know the difference between definitive and provisional meaning and understand the meaning of the definitive scriptures. Moreover, if one does not rely on the treatises explained by the great chariot pioneers who have become authorities, one will go in a dangerous direction like a blind person without a blind guide. Therefore, one must rely on non-reversed commentaries. What kind of commentary should one rely on? It is the noble Nāgārjuna, who was personally taught by the Blessed One, and who was clearly prophesied in many sutras and tantras to explain the profound meaning of being free from all extremes of existence and non-existence. He is widely known in the three realms. Therefore, one should rely on his treatises and seek the view of realizing emptiness. On this point, Āryadeva, the masters Buddhapālita, Bhāviveka, Chandrakīrti and Śāntarakṣita and other great Madhyamikas also regarded him as reliable like the master. Therefore, the father and son are the source of other Madhyamikas. Therefore, the ancients called them the fundamental Madhyamikas, and others the biased Madhyamikas. Some ancient spiritual friends say that there are two types of Madhyamikas named from the perspective of establishing terms: nominally external.

Those who believe in the existence of external objects are the Sutra School, and those who believe in the non-existence of external objects in conventional truth are the Yogachara Madhyamikas. There are also two types of naming from the perspective of ultimate truth: those who believe that phenomena such as sprouts and the collection of unreal appearances are ultimately true are the Illusion-Established School; and those who believe that the complete severance of elaboration on appearances is ultimately true are the Non-Abiding School. The former of these two is believed to be Shantarakshita and Kamalashila, and some Indians also hold the terms such as illusion and non-abiding. Dividing into two from the perspective of ultimate truth is a classification that generates confusion and wonder. The great translator said so. On this, Master Yeshe De says: The Holy Father and Son did not clearly explain the principle of the existence or non-existence of external objects in the Madhyamaka treatises. After that, Master Surendrabodhi refuted the Vijnanavada view and established the tenet that external objects exist in conventional truth. After that, Master Shantarakshita relied on the Yogachara scriptures,

The great masters also mainly hold this system. The teacher Chandrakirti, among all the commentaries on the Root Wisdom, saw that the teacher Buddhapalita had fully explained the intention of the noble one, and therefore established that system as the basis. The teacher Lekdenjé also took many good explanations, and refuted those that seemed slightly unreasonable, thus explaining the intention of the noble one. The commentaries of these two teachers are seen as the most outstanding for explaining the treatises of the noble father and son (Nagarjuna and Aryadeva). Therefore, here I will follow in the footsteps of the teachers Buddhapalita and Chandrakirti to determine the intention of the noble father and son. The second has three parts: identifying the afflicted ignorance; showing that it is the root of wandering in samsara; and seeking the view of selflessness because one wants to abandon self-grasping. The first is: The antidotes to other afflictions such as attachment, etc., spoken by the Victorious One, are antidotes to only one aspect, while the antidote to ignorance is said to be the antidote to all. Therefore, ignorance is the basis of all faults. As it says in the Clear Words: The Buddhas have taught nine kinds of teachings, relying on the two truths, such as the Sutra Pitaka, etc. Which is the vast one that is truly proclaimed here in the realm of conduct of the world? There, it is said to eliminate desire, but it will not cause hatred to cease. What is said to eliminate hatred will also not cause desire to cease. What is said to eliminate pride, etc., will also not destroy other stains. Therefore, that is not the most pervasive, those words and those are not of great importance. Whatever is said to eliminate delusion, that will destroy all afflictions. All afflictions truly rely on delusion, the Victorious Ones have said. Thus, one must meditate on suchness as the antidote to ignorance. Moreover, if one does not recognize ignorance, one will not know how to meditate on its antidote, so recognizing ignorance is extremely important. Ignorance is the opposite of wisdom. And wisdom is not just anything, but the wisdom of knowing the suchness of selflessness. The opposite of that is not just the absence of that wisdom, nor just something different from it, but its contradiction. That is the imputation of self.
