It is also said in the "Ma Dron": "Without the union of Prajnaparamita, obscurations will not be exhausted. Therefore, in order to abandon all obscurations of afflictions and knowledge, one should always meditate on the yoga of Prajnaparamita with skillful means. Because wisdom without skillful means, and skillful means without wisdom, are both said to be bonds, therefore neither should be abandoned." It is also said: "All collections of merit, such as the Paramita of Giving, which are abandoned from Prajnaparamita, are taught by the Buddhas as skillful means. By the power of habituation to skillful means, whoever meditates on wisdom will quickly attain enlightenment, not just by meditating on selflessness alone. The knowledge of the nature of emptiness, having realized the aggregates, elements, and sense bases as unborn, is fully explained as wisdom." This is clearly stated. In the "Crown Jewel Sutra," it is said that one should meditate on emptiness, which possesses all aspects of the supreme and complete with all aspects of skillful means such as giving. In the "Condensed Exposition," it is also said: "When Bodhisattvas practice the six perfections for the sake of enlightenment, foolish people think, 'Only Prajnaparamita should be studied, what is the use of the others?'" Thus, they are refuted. It is also said: "Some foolish people say that one can attain enlightenment by only one method, that is, by the method of emptiness. The conduct of those people will become completely impure." If one thinks that learning practices such as giving is only necessary when there is no stable realization of emptiness, and that if there is a realization of emptiness, that is enough, then if that were the case, the sons of the Buddhas who have attained the first bhumi, and especially the eighth bhumi Bodhisattva who has attained mastery over non-conceptual wisdom, would not need conduct. This is not reasonable, because in each of the ten bhumis, although giving and so on are each emphasized, it is not that the others are not practiced. As stated in the "Ten Bhumi Sutra," each bhumi is said to practice the six or ten perfections. Especially in the case of the eighth bhumi, because all afflictions have been exhausted, and one abides in the ultimate truth where all elaborations are pacified, the Buddhas say that one cannot attain Buddhahood by relying solely on this realization of emptiness.
