Practice for a long time, and also practice the nature of the objects of focus that are common to the lesser and intermediate individuals, as branches of it. Second, there are two parts: With what kind of physical conduct should one meditate? Explaining the order of meditation itself. First: As stated in the "Stages of Meditation," one should have the eight qualities of physical conduct on a cushion that is extremely soft and comfortable. Among them, the legs should be either in the full lotus position or the half lotus position. The eyes should not be too open or too closed, but should be focused on the tip of the nose. The body should not be too upright or bent, but should be straightened and the mindfulness should be placed inward. The shoulders should be placed straight and level. The head should not be too high or too low, and should not move to one side, but should be placed straight from the nose to the navel. The teeth and lips should be placed naturally and casually. The tongue should be placed against the root of the upper teeth. The breath should not be allowed to flow in and out with sound, or be rough, or be agitated, but should be allowed to enter slowly and effortlessly, without feeling the flow in and out. In this way, one should first accomplish the eight physical conducts, and especially as it is said to subdue the winds. Second: In most Lamrims, it is said that one should cultivate calm abiding through the eight activities of abandoning the five faults mentioned from the center and the edges. From the instructions passed down from Geshe Langsorba, it is said that on top of that, one must cultivate it with the six powers, four mental engagements, and nine minds explained in the Hearer Grounds. The venerable Maitreya also taught the nine methods of abiding the mind and the eight activities of abandoning in the Ornament of the Sutras and the Discrimination of the Middle and the Extremes. Following him, the Indian scholars such as the teacher Lion Good, Kamalashila, and Shantipa also created many orders of cultivating Samadhi. These also need to be known for the Mantrayana, and especially the faults such as the five faults of Samadhi and how to eliminate them are described in detail in the Sutra aspects. Here there are two: How to generate a flawless Samadhi; The order of generating mind-abiding based on that. First, there are three: How to do it before focusing the mind on the object.

Yaba. How to act when focusing on the object? How to act after focusing on the object? Firstly, if one cannot prevent laziness, which dislikes meditating on samadhi and enjoys things that are incompatible with it, then one should not be allowed to enter samadhi from the beginning, and even if one attains it once, one will not be able to maintain it continuously, and thus will quickly decline. Therefore, it is crucial to prevent laziness at the outset. If one attains the pliancy that increases joy and happiness in body and mind, then one will not feel weary of engaging in virtue day and night, and thus laziness will be overcome. To generate that, one must be able to constantly exert effort in samadhi, which is the cause of generating pliancy. To generate that, one must constantly have a strong desire to seek samadhi. The cause of that is to have firm faith that delights the mind by seeing the qualities of samadhi, so one should repeatedly meditate on the faith of thinking about the qualities of samadhi. As it says in the Madhyāntavibhāga: "The place and dwelling therein, and the cause and the fruit as well." Here, the place is desire, which is the place of effort. Dwelling therein is effort or diligence. The cause of desire is faith that believes in qualities. The fruit of effort is pliancy. Here, the qualities of samadhi to be meditated on are: if śamatha is accomplished, joy in the mind and happiness in the body increase, so one can abide in happiness in this life; because one has obtained pliancy of body and mind, the mind can be used as desired on any virtuous object; because the involuntary distraction to inverted objects is pacified, many misdeeds will not arise, and any virtue one does will be powerful; relying on śamatha, one can accomplish qualities such as clairvoyance and miracles; and especially, relying on it, the realization of vipaśyanā that realizes emptiness arises, so one can quickly cut the root of saṃsāra, etc. Whatever qualities one thinks of, one's interest and motivation to meditate on samadhi will increase, so one should know and meditate on these. If these arise, the mind will constantly urge one to meditate on samadhi, so it will be easy to attain samadhi, and even after attaining it, one will repeatedly meditate on it, so it will be difficult to lose. Secondly, there are two parts: identifying the object, which is the basis on which to place the mind; and how to place the mind on that.
