It is said that releasing those former people from prison and placing them in the happiness of a Chakravartin or Brahma is not as meritorious as looking upon a Bodhisattva who is devoted to the Mahayana with joy, wanting to look upon them with joy, and praising them, which would generate countless merits. In the Sutra of Miraculous Transformations of Perfect Tranquility, it is also said that killing all sentient beings in Jambudvipa or stealing all their possessions is not as sinful as obstructing the merit of a Bodhisattva giving even a single morsel of food to an animal, which would generate countless sins. Therefore, one must be extremely careful in this place. Secondly, even a small lump of iron will sink to the bottom, but the same iron, when made into a vessel, even if large, will float on the surface. Similarly, the sins committed by an unwise person and a wise person are said to be heavy and light, respectively. That is, for the former (sins committed by an unwise person), one should repent, and for the latter (sins committed by a wise person), one should guard against them, and without concealing the sins, one should do their antidote—virtuous deeds. In this way, for a wise person, the sins will be lightened. If not, but with a contemptuous attitude, knowingly engaging in them, then for such a person who considers himself wise, the sins will be heavy. In the Sutra of the Heap of Jewels, it is also said that if all the sentient beings of the three thousand great thousand worlds were to enter the Mahayana and possess the sovereignty of a Chakravartin, and each of them were to offer to a stupa of the Buddha with a lamp vessel as large as the ocean and a wick as large as Mount Sumeru, it would not be comparable to even one hundredth part of the merit of a Bodhisattva who has renounced the household life, offering a wick smeared with sesame oil in front of a stupa. This shows that there is no difference in intention and field, and the objects themselves are very different, but it is clear that it is the power of the support. According to this reasoning, whether or not one has vows, and even among those who have vows, whether one has one set of vows, two sets of vows, or three sets of vows as a basis for meditating on the path, it is also clear that the latter is more decisive than the former. For example, when a householder performs acts of generosity and so on, if it is done on the basis of having vows such as the upasatha vows, compared to doing it without vows, the difference in the strength of the roots of virtue is very great. In the Sutra of Subduing Those Who Violate Discipline, it is said that a person who possesses the ten non-virtuous deeds, if he continuously accumulates sins for a hundred years without interruption, it is not as sinful as a monk with broken vows, covering himself with the banner of a hermit, receiving offerings from devotees.

It is said that staying in one place for one night generates a great deal of non-virtue, which is also because the power of sin increases due to reliance on the object. The Vinaya-vibhaṅga also says, "It is better to eat burning iron balls than to eat the alms of the faithful with impure conduct and without keeping the precepts properly." This refers to both impure conduct and laxity in the training. The Buddha said, "Next to the sin that relies on the Dharma, the ten non-virtues are like crumbs of sin." It seems that's what was said. Third, giving charity to sentient beings, giving the Dharma, and offering practice to the Buddhas are far superior to material giving and offerings. By this analogy, other things should also be understood. Fourth, in the Ratna-rāśi it is said, "All the sentient beings of the three thousand great thousand worlds each build a stupa of the Buddha as large as Mount Meru, and offer them for hundreds of millions of kalpas, but the merit of a Bodhisattva offering a single flower with a mind inseparable from omniscience is greater." Similarly, it should be understood from the differences in the superiority and inferiority of what is obtained, the intention to focus on the benefit of oneself and others, and the strength, duration, and so on. For misdeeds, the stronger and longer the thought of affliction, the greater the power. Among them, anger is especially powerful. The Bodhicaryāvatāra says, "A single moment of anger destroys all the virtues accumulated over a thousand kalpas, such as giving and offering to the Sugatas." This refers to those who practice like Brahma, and especially anger towards the sons of the Victorious Ones is very heavy. The Samādhirāja-sūtra says, "If one has a harmful thought towards another, even if one holds pure precepts and is learned, one cannot be saved. Meditation cannot save, solitary places cannot save, giving cannot save, offering to the Buddhas cannot save." The third aspect has three: the result of complete maturation, the result similar to the cause, and the result of ownership or power. First, each of the ten paths of action depends on the three root poisons of small, medium, and large degrees, so there are three each. Among them, each of the ten great paths of killing and so on leads to hell; each of the ten medium paths leads to pretas; each of the ten small
