From the Collection: Even a small sin, will cause great fear in the next world, and great destruction, like poison that has entered the body. Even a small merit, will lead to great happiness in the next world, and will accomplish great things, like grains ripening in abundance. That's it. The third point is: if one does not accumulate the karma that causes the experience of happiness and suffering, one will never experience the happiness and suffering results of that karma. Even the Buddha, who enjoys the fruits of accumulating countless aeons of merit, does not need to accumulate all the causes, but must accumulate at least a part. The fourth point is: the good and bad deeds that have been done produce agreeable and disagreeable results. In particular, in the "Praise of Excellence" it says: Brahmins say that good and evil, like giving and receiving, are transferred. You say that what is done is not wasted, and what is not done is not encountered. And in the "King of Samadhi," it also says: Even if it is done, it will not fail to touch. What is done by others will not be felt either. And in the scriptures it also says: Karma, even after hundreds of thousands of kalpas, will not be wasted, and when the conditions are met, it will ripen into results for sentient beings. Thus it is said. The second part has two points: mainly explaining the ten paths of action, and establishing the certainty of karma and its results. The first point is: Since it has been determined that the causes and effects of happiness and suffering are different, that karma increases, that what is not done is not encountered, and that what is done is not wasted, then what kind of certainty should be generated first regarding the nature of karma and its results, and then what should be adopted and abandoned? In general, the gates through which good and bad conduct enter are determined to be three. Although all the good and bad of the three gates cannot be completely summarized into the ten paths of action, the main aspects or rough aspects of good and bad, that is, the basis of major faults. The Bhagavan summarized the key points and taught the ten black paths of action, and saw that if these were abandoned, then the very important points would also be summarized into ten, so he taught the ten white paths of action. The Treasury says: From these, summarizing the main aspects, for good and non-good, as appropriate, the ten paths of action are taught. And in the Vinaya-vibhanga it also says: Guarding speech, restraining well with the mind, not doing non-virtuous deeds with the body, if one diligently practices these three paths of action.
