is the accomplisher of satisfaction and preciousness. Loving-kindness, which cherishes sentient beings as if they were one's only child, is the fruit of those three, and it gives rise to compassion. Loving-kindness that desires to be associated with happiness, and compassion, do not show the certainty of cause and effect. Contemplating sentient beings as relatives is the cause of generating bodhicitta, which was taught by the teacher Chandrakirti, the monk Chandra, and the teacher Kamalashila. Second, in this way, when compassion arises from gradually training the mind, it is sufficient to generate the desire to attain Buddhahood for the sake of sentient beings. But what is to be done by inserting an additional intention in the middle? Immeasurable loving-kindness and compassion, which wish sentient beings to be associated with happiness and separated from suffering, are also present in hearers and self-realizers. However, taking on the burden of accomplishing happiness and eliminating suffering for all sentient beings is not present in those who are not Mahayanists, so it is necessary to generate an intention that is superior to the intention of courage. This can be known from the quotation of the Sutra Requested by Blo Gros Gya Mtsho in the commentary on the Uttaratantra. When the mind of liberating sentient beings arises in this way, in this state of one's own, one cannot even completely accomplish the benefit of one sentient being. Moreover, even if one attains the position of two arhats, one can only benefit a few sentient beings, and one can only accomplish liberation. Since one cannot benefit all sentient beings, one wonders who can completely accomplish the temporary and ultimate benefit of infinite sentient beings. Knowing that only the Buddha can do it, one generates the desire to attain Buddhahood for the sake of sentient beings. The second has three parts: training the mind in seeking the benefit of others, training the mind in seeking enlightenment, and recognizing the result of training, bodhicitta. The first has two parts: accomplishing the basis for generating that mind, and actually generating that mind. The first has two parts: accomplishing equanimity towards sentient beings, and accomplishing that all have a pleasing appearance. First, as explained earlier in the context of the lower and middle persons, the preliminary practices and other steps should also be taken and practiced here. First of all, cutting off partiality by being attached to some sentient beings and hating others,

If equanimity is not cultivated, then whatever love and compassion arise will be biased. Because it does not arise from impartiality, one should cultivate equanimity. Among them, one is to cultivate the state of beings without afflictions such as attachment and aversion, and the other is oneself being free from attachment and aversion towards beings and having equanimity, here referring to the latter. The order of cultivating this is, because it is easy to arise, one should first use a neutral person who has neither benefited nor harmed as the object of focus. Afterwards, remove attachment and anger, thereby cultivating equanimity. If equanimity is achieved, then afterwards cultivate equanimity towards friends. The reason for inequality towards them is the distinction of attachment and aversion, or the inequality of the size of attachment. After equalizing this, then cultivate equanimity towards enemies. The reason for inequality towards them is hating by viewing them as completely incompatible. After equalizing this, then cultivate equanimity towards all beings. This also has two aspects: From the perspective of beings, because all beings equally desire happiness and do not want suffering, it is unreasonable to favor some beings and bestow benefits, while distancing oneself from some beings and harming them or not bestowing benefits. From one's own perspective, from beginningless time in samsara, there is no being who has not been one's relative many times, therefore one should not have the thought of being attached to some beings and hating others. This is what is said in the "Middle Stages of Cultivation". Furthermore, regarding attachment to relatives, as stated in the "Inquiry of the Daughter of the Moon": I have killed all of you before, you have also dismembered and cut me before, we have all been mutual enemies and killers, how can you still have thoughts of desire? As mentioned earlier in the context of the fault of uncertainty, contemplate the way in which all enemies and relatives quickly change and depart, thus both anger and attachment can be averted. This must be done by taking enemies or relatives as the basis for distinction, so there is no need to eliminate the idea of enemies or relatives, but rather to use enemies or relatives as the reason to prevent the idea of distinguishing with attachment and aversion. Secondly, there are three: recognizing (all beings as) mother, remembering kindness, and cultivating repaying kindness. The first is: because samsara has no beginning, one's own birth also has no beginning.
