That which is called "All Actions Change," is afflicted by sufferings. Thus it is said. The second (part) has three (themes): The way afflictions arise, the way karma is accumulated by them, and the way of death, transference, and connection. The first (theme) is: The cause of the accomplishment of samsara requires both karma and afflictions, but afflictions are the main thing. Because if there are no afflictions, even if there are countless previously accumulated karmas, just as a seed without moisture and soil, etc., cannot grow, because karma does not have the conditions for co-action, the sprout of suffering will not grow. If there are afflictions, even if there is no previously accumulated karma, it will immediately be newly accumulated, thereby obtaining the aggregates of the next life. As it is said in the Pramāṇavārttika: Other karma that transcends the craving for existence cannot throw, because the co-actor is exhausted. And it is said: Craving is, if it exists, it will arise again. Therefore, it is very important to cultivate the antidote to afflictions, and this depends on knowing afflictions, so one should be proficient in afflictions. This has three aspects: the identification of afflictions, the order of arising, and the faults of afflictions. The first (aspect) has ten (afflictions), among which desire is: clinging to a pleasing and desirable object, whether external or internal, just as oil seeps into cloth and is difficult to remove, this also clings to its own object and spreads, making it difficult to separate from the object. Anger is: focusing on beings, suffering, weapons, thorns, and other sources of suffering, and being completely tormented, with a rough mind, wanting to harm those objects. Pride is: relying on the view of the perishable collection, focusing on external or internal high and low, good and bad, and being proud, appearing superior. Ignorance is: not being clear about the nature of the Four Noble Truths, the results of karma, and the Three Jewels, therefore it is an affliction of not knowing. Doubt is: focusing on the three, such as the truth, thinking whether it exists or not, is or is not. The view of the perishable collection is: focusing on the aggregates of grasping, thinking of "I" and "mine," it is the wisdom-affliction of clinging to self and what belongs to self. Among them, perishable is impermanent, and collection is many, therefore the basis for observing this is only impermanent and many dharmas, not permanent and one.

The person of the aggregates is non-existent. It is named view of the perishable aggregates in order to show this. The view of holding to extremes is: focusing on the self that is grasped by the view of the perishable, it is the wisdom of affliction that views permanence as absolute or views annihilation as having no connection from this life to the next. The view of holding views as supreme is: any of the three views of the perishable, extreme views, and wrong views, and the wisdom of affliction that holds as supreme by focusing on the aggregates of the one who holds the views on which they are based. The holding of ethics and asceticism as supreme is: the ethics of abandoning immoral conduct, and the asceticism of definitely determining the conduct of appearance, behavior, and body and speech, and the wisdom of affliction that views the purification of sins, liberation from afflictions, and definite deliverance from samsara by focusing on the aggregates on which they are based. Wrong view is: the imputation that there is no past and future life and no cause and effect, etc., and the wisdom of affliction of superimposition that holds power and the chief, etc., as the cause of beings. These are identifications of afflictions made from the point of view of the commonality of the higher and lower schools. The system of the Madhyamaka-Prasaṅgika will be explained below. The second is: according to those who assert the view of the perishable and ignorance as separate, for example, when a rope is piled up and a little darkness falls, so that the state of the rope is not clear, then the thought of grasping it as a snake arises. Similarly, when the state of the aggregates is clear, the darkness of ignorance that obscures it causes the delusion of grasping the aggregates as a self, and from that the other afflictions arise. According to those who assert that the two are one, the view of the perishable itself is the root of afflictions. Also, when the view of the perishable grasps a self, it makes a distinction between self and others. Having made such a distinction, attachment arises towards one's own side and hatred arises towards the other side. Pride also arises from focusing on the self. And one holds that self to be permanent or annihilated, and one holds to the view of self, etc., and one holds as supreme the bad conduct associated with it. Similarly, towards the teacher who teaches selflessness, and the cause and effect, the four truths, and the Three Jewels, etc., that he teaches, one has the wrong view that "these do not exist," or one has doubts as to whether such things exist, are or are not. As it says in the Pramāṇavārttika: If the self exists, then one knows others.
