The changing nature of the body is: the flesh of the body wasting away, the skin drying out, and so on. Suffering and discomfort increase, and one mostly remains in this state, because the elements of the body, such as water, are imbalanced, with their proportions being chaotic, causing suffering to the body, and from this, discomfort arises in the mind, so one must pass the days and nights. Not wanting desirable external enjoyments is because, regarding desirable objects, it is said they are harmful to illness, so even if one wants to, one has no right to enjoy them. Similarly, any desired way of acting cannot be done. Regarding undesirable external enjoyments, one must enjoy them even if one doesn't want to, because one must forcibly enjoy undesirable things like medicine and food. Similarly, one must rely on harsh treatments like burning with fire and cutting with knives. One will be separated from life, because seeing that the illness cannot be cured causes suffering, that is, thinking about these in detail. Fourth, contemplating the suffering of death has five aspects: separation from the four perfections of enjoyment, foundation, retinue, and a beautiful body, and experiencing intense suffering and discomfort at the time of death. One should repeatedly contemplate these until the mind becomes disgusted. The way the first four become suffering is by seeing oneself separated from those four and feeling suffering. Fifth, the suffering of encountering unpleasant things has five aspects: merely encountering enemies and the like causes suffering and discomfort; due to the punishment of enemies, one becomes in a terrifying situation of being beheaded; fearing bad words; fearing death like a nightmare; and fearing falling into the lower realms after death due to acting against the Dharma, that is, contemplating these. Sixth, the suffering of separation from pleasant things has five aspects: when separated from the most beloved relatives and the like, sadness arises in the mind; uttering lamentations in speech; causing harm to the body; remembering the qualities of that place and longing for it, causing pain in the heart; and the enjoyments of that place being incomplete, that is, contemplating these. Seventh, contemplating the suffering of seeking what is desired but not finding it has five aspects: it is similar to separation from pleasant things. Seeking what is desired but not finding it is like cultivating but not having a harvest, doing business but not making a profit, and so on, for whatever is hoped for, one strives

And even searching, it was not found, which is the suffering of disappointment. Eighth, in short, regarding the meaning of the statement that the five aggregates of clinging are suffering, there are five aspects to consider: the vessel of suffering of manifest accomplishment, the vessel of suffering dependent on manifest accomplishment, the vessel of the suffering of suffering, the vessel of the suffering of change, and having become the nature of the suffering of conditioning; one should repeatedly contemplate these. Among these, the first is that by relying on taking this aggregate of clinging, it leads to sufferings from future lives onwards. The second is that by relying on the aggregates having already been accomplished, it becomes the basis for aging, etc. The third and fourth are that the place of those two sufferings is bad, continuously connected, and produces those two sufferings. The fifth is that merely by the aggregate of clinging being accomplished, it arises as the nature of the suffering of conditioning, because all conditioning that is under the control of previous karma and afflictions is the suffering of conditioning. If genuine weariness towards the nature of the cycle of the aggregates of clinging does not arise, there will be no place for genuine wisdom seeking liberation to arise, and also great compassion cannot arise for sentient beings wandering in samsara. Therefore, whether entering the Great Vehicle or the Small Vehicle, this contemplation is extremely important. The second is, as stated in the "Letter to a Friend," the six faults of impermanence, insatiability, repeatedly abandoning the body, repeatedly taking rebirth, repeatedly changing from high to low, and having no companions, can be summarized into three points: samsara has no place to rely on, and no matter how much one indulges in its pleasures, there is no end to satisfaction, and having entered from beginningless time. The first point has four aspects: that it is unreliable to obtain a body is repeatedly abandoning the body. That it is unreliable to do benefit and harm is that parents become children, wives become enemies, enemies become friends, etc., there is no certainty. That it is unreliable to obtain prosperity is falling from high to low. That it is unreliable to associate is going alone. The third point is repeatedly taking rebirth, that is, the end of the succession of births is invisible; one should contemplate in this way again and again. Furthermore, attachment increases
