Therefore, one needs someone who learns the Dharma by entering into it. As it is said in the Jataka, "If I see the image of my bad deeds in the clear mirror of the Dharma, great sorrow will arise in my mind, and I will turn to the Dharma." This was said by the son of Sutasas when he requested the prince of the moon to teach the Dharma. The Bodhisattva, knowing that his mind had become a vessel for listening to the Dharma, spoke the Dharma accordingly. In short, I will attain Buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. To attain that, one must learn its cause. To learn its cause, it seems necessary to hear the Dharma. Therefore, generate the mind of enlightenment, thinking, "I should listen to the Dharma." Remembering the benefits of hearing, be joyful, and listen by abandoning the faults of the vessel, etc. The second part has four points: thinking about the benefits of teaching the Dharma, generating respect for the teacher and the Dharma, how to teach with what intention and action, and the difference between where to teach and where not to teach. The first point is, as it is said in the Treasury, "Dharma giving is not defiled, it accurately teaches the Sutras, etc." And in its self-commentary, it says, "Therefore, those who teach the Dharma in a perverse way, and those who teach with a defiled mind, desiring gain, respect, and fame, they will lose their great merit." Therefore, it is very important that the motivation for teaching the Dharma is pure. As Mangra Gompa said, "I have never taught the Dharma without first meditating on impermanence for one session." Therefore, it is crucial to first adjust the motivation. It is said in "Inciting Enthusiasm" that giving Dharma without looking at the confusion of gain and respect, etc., will bring twenty benefits. It is also said in "The Violent One" that the merit of a householder giving immeasurable confusion is less than the merit of a renunciate giving just one verse of Dharma. The second point is, as the Victorious Mother said, just as the Tathagata himself spread the seat, etc., the Dharma is a field of merit that even the Buddhas respect, so one should remember the qualities and kindness of the Dharma and the teacher, and generate respect. The third part has two points: intention and action. The first point is to establish the five perceptions mentioned in the Sutra Requested by Sagaramati: beneficial to oneself, beneficial to the Dharma, and the perception of disease for the listener.

and to generate the thought of the Tathagata as a great being, and to generate the thought of the Dharma's way as abiding for a long time, and to cultivate love for the retinue. To abandon jealousy of others' high positions, laziness that postpones, weariness from repeated teachings, proclaiming oneself and criticizing others, distorting the Dharma, and looking at material things such as food and clothing. Thinking that for oneself and others to attain Buddhahood, all the merits of the teachings are the means to one's own happiness. Secondly, having bathed and being clean, wearing clean clothes, and sitting on a Dharma throne and cushion in a clean and pleasant place, reciting the mantra to subdue the Maras, then within a hundred yojanas, the gods of the Maras and Mara's retinue will not come, and even if they come, they will not be able to create obstacles. This is said in the Sutra Requested by Sagaramati, so recite that mantra. With a radiant face, explain the meaning of the definitive limbs with examples, reasons, and scriptures. Fourthly, in the Vinaya Sutra it says, "Do not do it without being requested." Therefore, do not teach without being requested. Regarding the request, one should also examine the vessel, and if one knows it is a vessel, one can teach even without being requested, as stated in the Samadhiraja Sutra. Other behaviors are explained in the Vinaya Sutra. Thirdly, the roots of virtue of teaching and listening in this way should be sealed with pure aspirations such as the Bhadracarya Pranidhana. By teaching and listening to the Dharma in this way, even in just one session, one will effortlessly obtain the benefits mentioned in the scriptures. Relying on listening and teaching the Dharma to the point, all the previously accumulated karmic obscurations of disrespecting the Dharma and the speaker of the Dharma will be purified, and all newly accumulated obscurations will be interrupted. Because the way of listening is to the point, even the instructions of teaching will benefit the mindstream. Seeing this, in general, all the previous holy ones paid great attention to this, and especially the previous lamas of this instruction paid great attention to it. This seems like a great instruction, and if one does not gain certainty about this and does not transform one's mind, then no matter how profound and vast the Dharma is taught, it will become a god or a demon.
