I also observe that if the mind cannot abide, then one must engage in abiding meditation. If one does not understand this method, even if one is wise, one should only engage in analytical meditation. Kusalis should also not say that they only engage in abiding meditation, because everyone should do both. The wise should also practice shamatha and so on, and the Kusalis should also practice strong faith in the spiritual friend and so on. Therefore, it is unreasonable to think that repeatedly analyzing with discriminating wisdom is the stage of listening and contemplation, and not the stage of practice. To think that all conceptual thoughts are grasping at characteristics and are obstacles to enlightenment is the fault of not distinguishing between conceptual thoughts of inappropriate attention, grasping at reality, and conceptual thoughts of appropriate attention, correct attention. In this instruction, one must cultivate non-conceptual samadhi in which the mind is placed on a single object of focus, abiding as one wishes. Do not think that if there has been too much analytical meditation beforehand, it will become an obstacle to the arising of samadhi. For example, gold and silver, when repeatedly burned in fire and washed in water by a skilled blacksmith, have all impurities removed and become very soft and workable. Then, one can freely transform them into ornaments such as earrings. Similarly, first, with regard to afflictions and near afflictions, and misdeeds, etc., as it arises from the sections on contemplating black karmic results and the faults of samsara, etc., repeatedly contemplating their faults with discriminating wisdom, the attention that causes the mind to be completely tormented or weary, like burning gold in fire, causes the mind to turn away from the black side and purifies those impurities. As it arises from the sections on the qualities of the spiritual friend and the precious human rebirth, and the qualities of the Three Jewels and white karmic results, and the benefits of bodhicitta, etc., repeatedly contemplating those qualities with discriminating wisdom, the attention that causes the mind to become moist or to generate faith, like washing gold in water, causes the mind to clearly turn towards the white side and to be delighted, thereby moistening the mind with virtuous Dharma. If this is done, then whether one wants to cultivate shamatha or vipashyana

Therefore, if you trust in it, you will accomplish it effortlessly. Therefore, such analytical meditation is the supreme method for accomplishing non-conceptual samadhi. As the noble Asanga said: For example, when a blacksmith or a skilled disciple of a blacksmith burns gold or silver in a fire and washes it with water from time to time in order to purify all impurities and dirt, it becomes soft and suitable for making various ornaments, and it becomes manifest. Similarly, a craftsman who is in harmony with that blacksmith or skilled disciple of a blacksmith uses blacksmith's tools to transform it into any desired ornament. Similarly, whenever a yogi becomes weary of the defilements and impurities of greed, etc., does not incline towards the suffering of afflictions, and is very happy because he inclines towards the side of virtue, then, the yogi, by combining the mind with whichever side of calm abiding or insight, can attain it very easily, abide very peacefully, not waver, not change, and also go forward in order to truly accomplish the meaning of what is thought. It is said. Furthermore, there are two main obstacles to keeping the mind stable on one object: sinking and excitement. Among them, if there is a strong and lasting power of wisdom that sees the qualities of the Buddhas, etc., then it is very easy to cut off sinking. Because many qualified people say that the antidote to sinking is to uplift the mind by seeing the qualities. If there is a strong and lasting power of wisdom that sees the faults of impermanence and suffering, etc., then it is very easy to cut off excitement. Because excitement is a distracted mind that belongs to desire, the scriptures praise renunciation as the antidote to excitement. The second part is divided into two: encouraging to take the essence on the leisure support, and how to take the essence. The first part is divided into three points: identifying leisure and endowment, thinking about its great meaning, and thinking about its difficulty to obtain. The first part is divided into two: leisure and endowment.
