I am utterly without mind here. Why am I so foolish, I do not know. What is it that is within me? Thus he spoke. Thus, in terms of the ultimate, it is not only of great importance, but in terms of the temporary, one should also think of how this basis (human body) can easily accomplish the cause of the prosperity of higher realms, such as body, enjoyment, retinue, and abundance, such as generosity, ethics, patience, and so on. If that basis of great importance does not strive day and night for the cause of these two, it seems like returning empty-handed from a treasure island. Third, in the root text, it says: Dying and transmigrating from the lower realms and the higher realms, going to the lower realms is like the great earth, and being born in the higher realms is like the dust taken from the tip of a fingernail, therefore it is difficult to obtain from both the higher and lower realms. If you wonder why it is so difficult to obtain, the Four Hundred Verses say: For the most part, people are not virtuous, they hold on to all kinds of evil. Therefore, ordinary beings, for the most part, will certainly go to the lower realms. As it is said, like people and so on, most hold on to the ten non-virtuous actions and so on, therefore they will also go to the lower realms. Furthermore, if like being angry with a Bodhisattva, even for a single moment, one must remain in hell for eons. Then, for the sins accumulated in many lifetimes, the fruit has not yet ripened, nor has it been destroyed by the antidote, those who have it in their own minds, what need is there to say that they must remain in the lower realms for eons? Even so, if one purifies the cause of the lower realms accumulated in the past, and closes the door to newly entering, then it is not difficult to obtain the higher realms. However, such a thing is very rare. If you do not do so, you will go to the lower realms. Once you go to the lower realms, you will not do good, but will constantly do evil, therefore, as it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara, for countless eons, you will not even hear the name of the higher realms. Potowa said: In Phenyul, there was a large fortress called Ma'i Phyakhar, which was captured by the enemy and was in danger for a long time. An old man was very concerned about this fortress. Once, he heard that the fortress had been recaptured, and even though he could not walk, he held a spear and dragged himself, saying: Ma'i Phyakhar has been recaptured, I hope this is not a dream! Similarly, upon obtaining leisure and endowment, one should also find such joy and strive to practice the Dharma. As it is said, one should generate such a mind.

One should repeatedly meditate on leisure and endowment. Thus, in order to generate the desire to take the essence of a leisure body, a body that possesses all the characteristics, one needs to contemplate the four dharmas. Among them, what needs to be practiced is: all sentient beings want happiness and do not want suffering. Achieving happiness and eliminating suffering also completely depend on the excellent Dharma. The reason why one can practice is: the external condition is a spiritual friend, and the internal condition is having leisure and endowment. Moreover, the reason why one must practice in this life is: if one does not practice in this life, it will be difficult to obtain leisure and endowment in many lifetimes. The reason why one must practice right now is: because one cannot be certain when one will die. Among them, the third (reason) is to prevent the laziness of thinking that one will practice the Dharma in future lives, and the fourth (reason) is to prevent the laziness of thinking that even if one needs to practice in this life, it is okay to practice in the future years and months even if one has not achieved it in the previous years, months, and days. Therefore, combining these two into rapid practice, it is okay to combine them into three. Thus, remembering death is also related to this, but because there are many words, it will be explained below. Thus, if one thinks from various angles, it will cause confusion in thinking, so think as previously stated. If one cannot do that, then summarize how the nature of leisure is, explaining the great significance from the perspective of temporary and ultimate, and explaining the difficulty of obtaining it from the perspective of cause and effect, and extract and practice from what was previously said according to what is appropriate. Among them, explaining the difficulty of obtaining it from the perspective of cause is: in general, just obtaining a good rebirth requires practicing one kind of pure virtue such as morality. In particular, to obtain complete leisure and endowment, one needs to take pure morality as the foundation, with generosity and so on as help, and with pure aspirations as the connection, etc., many roots of virtue are needed. The practice of such a cause also seems very small, so based on this, think that the result, the body of a good rebirth in general, is particularly difficult to obtain. Explaining the difficulty of obtaining it from the perspective of result is: relative to the different kinds of bad rebirths, just a good rebirth seems very rare. Relative to the good rebirths of the same kind, the particularity of leisure and endowment is also extremely rare, one should meditate in this way. Geshe Dolpa emphasized this very much, saying that all other Dharmas arise from being guided by this.
