Therefore, one should strive diligently. The second (part) has two divisions: generating certainty in the general framework of the path, and the actual method of extracting the essence from it. The first (part) has two divisions: how all the scriptures are included in the path of the three types of individuals, and showing the reason for guiding gradually through the door of the three types of individuals. The first is: all the Buddhas' initial generation of the mind of enlightenment, the accumulation of merit in the middle, and the final attainment of complete perfect enlightenment are all for the sake of sentient beings alone. Therefore, all the teachings are also for the purpose of accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings alone. Thus, the purpose of sentient beings to be accomplished is twofold: temporary higher realms and ultimate definite goodness. Starting with accomplishing the former, all that is taught can be included in the category of the lower individual or the teachings common to the lower individual. The special lower individual does not focus too much on this life, but seeks the prosperity of the heavens in the next life, and engages in accomplishing its causes. As it says in the "Lamp for the Path": "Whoever, by whatever means, seeks only the happiness of samsara for their own sake, should be known as the lowest individual." Definite goodness has two aspects: liberation that is only liberation from samsara, and omniscience. Among them, all that is taught starting from the Hearer and Solitary Realizer vehicles can be included in the category of the intermediate individual or the teachings common to them. The intermediate individual becomes weary of all existence, makes liberation from existence the goal to be attained for their own sake, and engages in the three trainings as the means to that end. As it says in the "Lamp for the Path": "Turning their back on the happiness of existence, turning away from sinful actions, seeking only their own peace, that individual is called intermediate." The means of accomplishing omniscience are two: Secret Mantra and the Great Vehicle of the Perfections. These two can be included in the category of the teachings of the great individual. The great individual is controlled by great compassion, and in order to exhaust all the suffering of sentient beings, makes attaining Buddhahood the goal to be attained, and studies the six perfections and the two stages, etc. As it says in the "Lamp for the Path": "Who is oppressed by their own suffering,

everything. Completely and thoroughly wanting to eliminate everything. Such a person is supreme." This was said. Because that person, for the means of accomplishing Bodhi, will explain both Paramita and Mantra below. The names of the three types of individuals are mentioned in many treatises such as the Gtan la dbab pa bsdud ba and the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha. Small individuals have two types: those who focus on this life and those who focus on the next life. This is the second type, which is to take up entering the non-erroneous means of higher rebirth. Secondly, there are two aspects: what is the meaning of leading through the door of the path of the three types of individuals; and what is the reason for leading in that order. First, although three types of individuals are explained in this way, the path of the other two types of individuals is also included in the path of the great individual. Therefore, the teacher Ashvaghosa said that those two paths are branches of the Mahayana path. Therefore, here it is not leading to the path of the small individual who only seeks the happiness of samsara and nirvana, and the middle individual who only seeks liberation from samsara for their own benefit, but rather taking some paths common to those two as a preliminary to leading to the path of the great individual, as a branch of practicing the path of the great individual. Secondly, there are two aspects: the actual reason and the necessity. First, the entrance to entering the Mahayana is precisely generating the supreme Bodhicitta. If that arises in the mindstream, as the Bodhicaryavatara says, "Once the Bodhicitta arises, in an instant, those miserable ones imprisoned in the prison of samsara are called the sons of the Sugatas." Thus, obtaining the name of Bodhisattva, one enters the Mahayana as a basis. If it is lost, one will leave the ranks of the Mahayana. Therefore, those who wish to enter the Mahayana must strive to generate that mind from many aspects. To generate that mind, one must first contemplate the benefits of generating that mind, thereby increasing joy in the benefits, and the seven-limbed practice including refuge, as stated in the Compendium of Trainings and the Bodhicaryavatara. The benefits that are mentioned in that way can also be summarized into two: temporary benefits and ultimate benefits. The first is further divided into not falling into the lower realms and being born in the higher realms, that mind.
