As it is said, "Make the Lama completely pleased." In short, one should strive to accomplish what pleases and abandon what displeases. There are three doors to accomplishing what pleases: offering material possessions, serving and honoring with body and speech, and acting according to the instructions. As it says in the Ornament of the Sutras, "One should attend to the spiritual friend through respect, offerings, and service, through the door of practice." The first of these is as stated in the Fifty Verses: "One should always attend to one's samaya teacher, even with one's life, not to mention wealth, children, or spouse. Giving that is always the same as offering to all the Buddhas. That offering is a collection of merit, and from that collection, supreme accomplishment arises." The second is bathing, anointing, massaging, wiping, attending to the sick, and so forth, as well as speaking of their qualities, and so forth. The third is to practice without contradicting the instructions, and that is the main thing. As it says in the Jataka Tales, "The offering that is made in return for benefit is to practice according to the words of instruction." The fourth is that one draws near to the state of Buddhahood, the Victorious Ones are pleased, one is not abandoned by the virtuous spiritual friend, one does not fall into the lower realms, one is difficult to be overcome by negative actions and afflictions, one does not contradict the conduct of a Bodhisattva and is endowed with mindfulness of it, and thus the accumulation of qualities increases higher and higher, and all temporary and ultimate purposes are accomplished, as it is said. Furthermore, by serving and honoring the spiritual friend, the karmas of experiencing the lower realms are exhausted by experiencing a slight harm to body and mind in this life, or even in a dream, and the roots of virtue, such as offering to immeasurable Buddhas, are overwhelmed, and so forth, and the benefits are said to be extremely great. Fifth, if one takes a spiritual friend as a spiritual friend and then the way of attending to them is wrong, then in this life one will be harmed by diseases and many evil spirits, and in the next life one will experience immeasurable suffering in the lower realms. As it says in the Fifty Verses, "One should never disturb the mind of all the teachers. If one does so out of ignorance, one will surely be burned in hell. The hells that are taught, such as Avici, are terrifying.

It is like this. As for the slanders against the teacher, they are also truthfully narrated there. Moreover, it is also quoted in the commentary on the teachings of the Black Enemy: "Whoever does not regard as a teacher the one from whom he has heard even a single verse, will be born a hundred times in the dwelling place of dogs, and will be born as a leper." Thus it was said. Furthermore, qualities that have not arisen will not arise, and qualities that have arisen will also decline. If one relies on an evil friend and a bad companion, qualities will diminish and faults will increase, thereby causing displeasure. Therefore, it is said that one should abandon them in every way. Sixth, in that case, the instruction widely known as Guru Yoga should also be understood as previously explained. It is not enough to meditate only once in a while. If one sincerely practices the Dharma, one must rely on a faultless guide, a spiritual friend, for a long time. At that time, Chak Khawa also said, "When it is difficult to rely on a guru, there is a danger of abandoning him." Like this, if one does not know how to rely on him, one will not benefit but will suffer losses. Therefore, these Dharma categories of relying on a spiritual friend seem to be the root of the ultimate aspiration in every respect. We have coarse afflictions, and we do not know how to rely on a spiritual friend, and even if we know, we do not do it. For those who listen to many teachings, many faults of relying on a guru will arise, and it is difficult to generate thoughts of confession and discipline for these faults. Therefore, one should understand the benefits and drawbacks as previously explained, and confess from the depths of one's heart for the places where one has not relied on him properly, and generate a lot of protective thoughts. If one does this, before long, one will become like the Bodhisattva Sadāprarudita and the youth Sadāpraudita, who never tires of seeking a spiritual friend. The second part is divided into two points: the actual method of cultivation, and the reason why one must cultivate with two methods of cultivation. The first part is divided into two points: how to do it during the session, and how to do it during the breaks between sessions. The first part is divided into three points: preliminaries, main practice, and how to do it at the end. The first point is: the six preliminary practices, because it is the biography of Serlingpa, so clean the room, arrange the supports of body, speech, and mind, arrange the offerings without deception and beautifully, straighten the body on a comfortable cushion, and sit in a posture of full or half lotus position.
