Contentment with few desires means not being particularly attached to good or abundant clothing, etc. Being content means always being satisfied with obtaining only coarse clothing, etc. Completely abandoning many activities means completely abandoning bad activities such as buying and selling, as well as being too close to and friendly with householders and renunciates, practicing medicine, astrology, etc. Pure morality means not damaging the nature of both the Pratimoksha and Bodhisattva vows, as well as any precepts that should be protected in connection with them. Even if they are damaged due to carelessness, they can be quickly compensated for by repenting and restoring them according to the Dharma. Completely abandoning thoughts of desire, etc., means contemplating the faults of desire, such as the suffering of killing, binding, etc., in this life, and the suffering of going to bad destinies in future lives, or contemplating that all pleasant or unpleasant things in samsara are impermanent and subject to destruction, and that one will inevitably be separated from them and oneself in the near future. So why should I be particularly attached to them, etc., and thus abandon all thoughts of desire. The "Lamp on the Path to Enlightenment" also says: "If the limbs of calm abiding are deficient, even if one diligently meditates, even after millions of years, it will be difficult to achieve supreme samadhi." Therefore, for those who sincerely want to achieve calm abiding meditation, it is very important to strive to practice the thirteen branches of calm abiding, etc., as taught in the listening places. Second, there are two parts: preliminary practices and main practices. First, practice the six preliminary practices and Bodhicitta mentioned earlier for a long time, and as a branch of it, also practice the nature of the goals common to lower and middle individuals. Second, there are two parts: what kind of posture to meditate with, and explaining the order of meditation. First, as stated in the "Stages of Meditation," one should meditate on a very soft and comfortable cushion with a posture that possesses the eight qualities. Among them, the legs can be in full lotus position or half lotus position. The eyes should not be opened too wide or closed too tightly, but should be focused on the tip of the nose. The body should not be leaning too far forward or backward, but should be sitting upright and straight, with mindfulness placed within. The shoulders should be straight and level. The head

Not high, not low, placed without shaking to one side, placed straight from the nose to the navel. The teeth and lips are placed naturally and normally. The tongue touches the root of the upper teeth. The breath flows in and out, without making sound, being forceful, or being rushed, it is essential to make sure that the exhaling and inhaling are not felt, entering slowly and effortlessly, that is how it should be done. In this way, first, one should practice the eight postures of the body, and especially, as it is said, subdue the breath. Secondly, in most Lamrims, it is said that Samatha is cultivated through the eight applications that abandon the five faults mentioned in the Middle and Extremes. In the instructions passed down from Geshe Langsorwa, it is said that on top of that, one must cultivate it with the six powers, four mental engagements, and nine states of mind as explained in the Hearing Grounds. The venerable Maitreya also spoke of nine methods of abiding the mind and eight applications of abandonment in the Ornament of the Sutras and the Middle and Extremes. Following him, the Indian scholars such as Acharya Simhabhadra, Kamalashila, Shantipa, etc., also made many stages of cultivating Samadhi. These also need to be known in the Mantrayana. In particular, the faults such as the five faults of Samadhi and how to eliminate them appear extensively in the Sutra aspects. There are two aspects to this: the way to generate flawless Samadhi, and the stages of generating mind-abiding based on it. The first has three parts: what to do before focusing the mind on the object, what to do while focusing on the object, and what to do after focusing on the object. First, if one cannot prevent laziness, which is not happy to meditate on Samadhi and likes its opposite, then one should not be allowed to enter Samadhi from the beginning, and even if one obtains it once, one cannot continue it, so one will quickly degenerate. Therefore, it is very important to prevent laziness at the beginning. For this, if one obtains the pliancy that increases the joy and happiness of body and mind, then one will not be tired of engaging in virtue day and night, thus laziness will be prevented. To generate that, one needs to be able to constantly exert effort in Samadhi, which is the cause of generating pliancy. To generate it
